The BDFL News

Special tribute to the World Football League

No it wasn't perfect and it picked a bad time to début, but to a 12 year old boy growing up in Alabama, the WFL was my league and the Birmingham Americans/Vulcans were my team. We couldn't have cared less about the league's financial woes. Me, my brothers, family and friends lived to go to the games and we loved the players and the thrills they brought to our beloved Legion Field. And when our Uncle Ronnie Slovensky made the Vulcans in 1975 as the kicker, the WFL became family! This week the BDFL salutes the men who made the memories for a lifetime. Thank you for playing for the fans and for the love of the game!

The Pasco County Wizards playing as the Florida Blazers during the BDFL's Throwback Week has every team looking at their backside in the overall standings through Week 9 in the BDFL

THE BIG STORY

The blistering Blazers go on as the best team in the WFL after Week 9 action

PORTLAND – With the Jack Pardee and Sunshine State connection working in unison, the Florida Blazers (Pasco County Wizards) made a huge statement against the Portland Storm (Jugtown Juggernauts) for dominance in the World Football League (BDFL). Led by the likes of running back Tommy Reamon (Adrian Peterson) and quarterback Bob Davis (Marc Bulger), the Blazers were the class of the WFL back in 1974. However, they met their nemesis on Dec. 5, 1974 in World Bowl I losing to the Birmingham Americans 22-21 in front of 32,376 screaming fans. Could this Throwback Week be a foretelling of things to come for another Florida team in 2008?
