Grenades to go by the Grenadiers in 2009 |
Grenade Brigade What the Grenades mean to the BDFL by Keith Jackson
As the cornerstone franchise of the BDFL, the Grenades existed even before the BDFL was formed. This is a little known fact since the Hand Grenades competed in the McDuffie Bull Sheet League (MBSL)in 1993 and 1994 before branching off to form the eight team BDFL in 1995. Like Curly Lambeau was to the Packers, Iron Hand has been the guiding force behind the Grenades in forming, developing and directing the organization into the premier franchise in the league. The Grenades gave the BDFL instant credibility in 1995 when they came over to form the league and have always been the model franchise of the BDFL and we don't see this ever changing. The Grenades and the BDFL, two class acts.

The Bomb Squad With the slight nickname adjustment in 2009, the Cool Springs Grenadiers are set to make a run at their first BDFL title by Iron Hand FOXBORO- In an attempt to change their fortunes, the Cool Springs Grenades will play the 2009 season as the "Grenadiers" in hopes of landing their first BDFL title since forming the league 15 years ago. A grenadier (derived from the word grenade) was originally a specialized soldier, first established as a distinct role in the mid to late 17th century, for the throwing of grenades and sometimes assault operations. At this time grenadiers were chosen from the strongest and largest soldiers. By the nineteenth century, the throwing of grenades was no longer relevant, but grenadiers were still chosen for being the most physically powerful soldiers and would lead assaults in the field of battle. Grenadiers would also often lead the storming of breaches in siege warfare. In the nineteenth century, certain countries such as France and Argentina established units of "Horse Grenadiers". Like their infantry grenadier counterparts, these horse-mounted soldiers were chosen for their size and strength. With a combined history of skill and strength, the Grenadiers could be destined to capture their first title in 2009, the year of the Grenadiers! |
