 Aw Shucks
Former Gardendale Rocket - Jordan Howard was a big part of the Blue Deacons championship season

The Blue Deacons make hist'ry with this vict'ry

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - “Aw shucks” is a traditional folksy expression of modesty and humility. It can also be a personal quality trait of self-deprecating and shyness. An “aw shucks” kind of person usually declines to accept compliments and is pleasant to be around most of the time. It also reflects the Mt. High Blue Deacons approach to the BDFL and it actually became their battle cry for the 2018 season. By earning a stud in the 2018 BDFL Pony Draft and by building a solid nucleus of players through the Progressive Priority Draft (PPD) process and drafting well on Genuine Draft Night, the Pride of the Knights of Columbus (Local Council 10354) stuck to their guns (and swords) to qualify for the league's "elite" post-season championship bracket, the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS). As the lowly #8 seed in the BDCS, the mighty Mt. Highlanders proceeded to knock off the #1, #2 and #5 seeds in order to become the first team in BDFL hist'ry to ascend to the championship and win the coveted Grand Daddy trophy from the #8 seeded post-season position. A daunting task and a historic feat to say the least. However, winning a BDFL championship will challenge the Blue Deacons' "aw shucks" attitude and we'll see if they gloat the next time they run into the Woo Crew at the West Blount County Fair. How Do You Like Me Now?! by Toby Keith (1999)

The Big Mullet Bowl can set the table for future success

PERDIDO KEY - The Mt. High Blue Deacons finished second in the 2017 Big Mullet Bowl a season ago and used it to draft Calvin Ridley with the second overall pick in the 2018 BDFL Pony Draft. Ridley became a catalyst in the Blue Deacons starting line-up and helped propel them to the 2018 BDFL title. The Brookside Dogs won the 2018 Big Mullet Bowl and earned the first pick in the 2019 BDFL Pony Draft in April from which they hope to draft the cornerstone of their first BDFL championship title team.
