Time To Pony Up
Alabama's Josh Jacobs should go high in the 2019 BDFL Pony Draft in late April

From obscurity to the 2019 Pony Draft

INDIANAPOLIS - When Alvin Kamara was a freshman at Alabama in 2013, he couldn't find the field. Kamara was at best, the fourth string back at Bama when he arrived in Tuscaloosa. Lost on the depth chart and buried behind T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake, Kamara was redshirted his freshman season and then transferred without ever carrying the ball for the Tide. Today, Kamara is arguably the most complete running back in the National Football League (NFL). He was also a big reason why the Mt. High Blue Deacons won the 2018 BDFL Championship Title. In the 2019 BDFL Pony Draft class there is another former Crimson Tider who didn't get a ton of playing time, or put up huge numbers at the Capstone, that could become a big-time back in the NFL. As a true freshman in 2016, Josh Jacobs was the third string running back behind big Bo Scarbrough and Damian Harris. However, #25 showed signs of his versatility and explosiveness by putting up 723 total yards from scrimmage with a 7.3 yard average per touch and four touchdowns. As a sophomore, Jacobs changed his jersey to #8, but still was buried on the depth chart behind Harris and freshman sensation Najee Harris and he slipped to 452 total yards from scrimmage with a 7.5 yard average per touch and three touchdowns. As a junior in 2018, Jacobs didn't make a huge impact until late in the season. With three impressive games in the post-season against Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson, Jacobs played his way into the NFL Draft where he could be the first running back selected. Iron Hand has him going to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round at #29, but he's go even higher in the BDFL's 2019 Pony Draft in late April. 2019 BDFL Pony Draft Prospectus

PONY DRAFT PREDICTIONS

#1 - QB-Dwayne Haskins OHIO STATE

The Dogs earned the first pick of the Pony Draft with their undefeated run through the 2018 Big Mullet Series. Haskins seems to be the "most ready" signal caller in this draft class and Dogs will take the former Buckeye with the first Pony pick. Iron has Haskins going to the Giants in the NFL Draft.

#2 - QB-Kyler Murray OKLAHOMA

The Dixie Mafia is always in the market for a thug. Although Murray doesn't check all the boxes on the Gamblers Gambino Crime Family's thug check list, he should fit in nicely with the Gulf Coast's motley crew. Iron has Murray going to the Jaguars in the NFL Draft.

#3 - RB-Josh Jacobs ALABAMA

Deep down the Bullets are the Homer Simpsons of the BDFL. Woohoo! 99.9% chance the Bullets take a Bama back in the #3 hole. Jacobs projects better as an NFL back than Damian Harris, but look for Homer to stay close to his core here. Iron has Jacobs going to the Chiefs in the NFL Draft.

#4 - RB-Damian Harris ALABAMA

If the Bullets are Homer, the Juggernauts are Marge. However, we can't really fault Marge here for taking Harris. With power, explosive speed and the ability to catch the ball and get up the field, Damian will contribute early in the NFL. Iron has Harris going to the Texans in the NFL Draft.

#5 - QB-Daniel Jones DUKE

Jones got some excellent coaching in Durham. Whether it will carry over is the big question. The league is QB poor, so Jones will go higher than expected and be given a chance to earn a starting role and that is good enough for DaBlitz. Iron has Jones going to the Dolphins in the NFL Draft.

#6 - WR-Marquise Brown OKLAHOMA

The Freebirds are always looking for a good deal and they should find one in the #6 hole of the 2019 BDFL Pony Draft. This would be one "Hollywood" drafting another. Brown is hell when he's well, but he's not always healthy. Iron has Brown going to the Ravens in the NFL Draft.

#7 - RB-Benny Snell KENTUCKY

The Grenadiers look for good value in the Pony Draft. Benny Snell is good value. Snell is the all-time leading rusher in Kentucky history breaking a 43 year old record, previously held by Sonny Collins. Iron has Snell going to the Jets in the NFL Draft.

#8 - WR-D.K. Metcalf OLE MISS

The Mayors are known to over analyze everything, so this pick won't be any different. After a lot of number crunching and long-handed arithmetic, the Mayors will settle on D.K. Metcalf for his big play potential. Iron has Metcalf going to the Cardinals in the NFL Draft.

#9 - QB-Drew Lock MISSOURI

The Armadillos have always liked gunslingers. It's in their blood. Drew Lock will be more like Buffalo Bill than Sam Hill. Lock will be a steal in the #9 hole since he could end up starting some games in the fall with the right situation. Iron has Lock going to the Redskins in the NFL Draft.

#10 - TE-T.J. Hockenson IOWA

The Sloth Monsters will go with one of their own kind here with Hockenson who is the highest rated tight end in this year's draft class and that is saying a lot. Big, physical and athletic, there is not a lot to not like about this Hawkeye. Iron has Hockenson going to the Patriots in the NFL Draft

#11 - TE-Irv Smith ALABAMA

Smith may be better than Hockenson, time will tell. Irv has the body of a tight end, but the receiving skills of a wide receiver. He's built to be successful in today's game and he should be an instant starter in the NFL and for the Dorians. Iron has Smith going to the Saints in the NFL Draft.

#12 - WR-N’Keal Harry ARIZONA STATE

This guy has gotten enough pre-draft hype to be All-Pro before he catches his first pass. The Cheetahs will complain about having to pick this low in the draft and Harry will probably have 10 touchdowns as a rookie. Iron has Harry going to the Raiders in the NFL Draft.

#13 - WR-A.J. Brown OLE MISS

If you were ever wondering why Ole Miss got slammed by the NCAA, just watch the NFL Draft this year. Brown compares to Julio Jones. The Wildcats will get a great pick at lucky #13, if Brown is still around. Iron has Brown going to the Browns in the NFL Draft.

#14 - QB-Will Grier WEST VIRGINIA

Grier outplayed Murray in their head-to-head match-up last season in Norman. He has more experience than any other quarterback entering the draft, but the PowerSleds will take him for the mustache. Iron has Grier going to the Bengals in the NFL Draft.

#15 - RB-Darrell Henderson MEMPHIS

A bit of a sleeper for the BDFL's newest franchise, the Fieldstown Bellcows, but Henderson is a quality pick nonetheless. Many BDFL media experts consider Henderson to be the most explosive back in the draft. Iron has Henderson going to the Packers in the NFL Draft.

#16 - QB-Devlin Hodges SAMFORD

When you are the defending BDFL Champions, you can basically do whatever you want...if you bring the beer. In wanting to be like Bullet, the Blue Deacons will take a homer pick of their own in the former Mortimer Jordan signal caller. Iron has Hodges going to the Panthers in the NFL Draft.
