Slobber Knocker
Jay Ajayi and the PowerSleds beat the Sloth Monsters 57-49 to kick-off the BDFL season with a classic

Sleds slay Sloths in a BDFL instant classic

HOOVER, AL - With an unlimited home run limit rule and the ability to hit your own ball, this one had all the makings of a USSSA certified Class C classic. Both teams loaded up with cases of microwaved Haitian blue dots, so you knew it was going to be a high scoring affair. Throw in Barry and Bucket working the parking lot with over-stuffed shoe boxes and it doesn't get any bigger than this in the BDFL. It lived up to the billing and all the pre-season hype. Even with the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium's outfield fences backed up to their original dimensions (350, 395, 415, 395, 350) there was still plenty of long ball fireworks before, during and after this contest that have not been seen at "The Met" since 1989 when Ray DeMarini's Team DeMarini faced off against Craig Elliott's Men of Steele in another legendary high-scoring shootout. Before another packed house on a late Monday Night (The Met was packed on Friday night for Thompson vs. Hoover), the Fairfield PowerSleds came from behind to out-slug the nearby Shades Creek Sloth Monsters 57-49 (106 total points in one game is a new BDFL record) in an old-fashioned "slobber knocker" to kick-off the 23rd season of the BDFL. They will undoubtedly be talking about this BDFL "instant classic" in breakfast houses and coffee shops along US 31 and Alabama State Route 150 for decades to come in these parts of southern and western Jefferson County. The BDFL's RICKA Rule is in effect through Week 2

TITLETOWN - "Ricka" is an old German name meaning "Power of the Wolf". Roman Gabriel played with power during his college days for the Wolf Pack of North Carolina State and for 16 years in the NFL mainly with the original Los Angeles Rams. In the BDFL, RICKA is an acronym for Released, Injured, Cut, Kicked-off, or Arrested. Thus we have the RICKA Rule through the first two weeks of the season to keep the lambs from squealing to the wolves.
