MOUNTAIN REST, SC - Back in the day, Iron used to R&R in the Upstate. Primal living can be good for the soul. However, no air, no TV and not much of anything else can test a man. On the way up the Blue Ridge Mountains just north Walhalla sets a place called "The Last Chance". Most millennials don't know it, but some counties in America used to be dry and package stores and dives made a killing selling hooch just outside the borders of these dry county lines. "The Last Chance" was just such a joint. They fly the Rebel flag outside this juke joint, but to call it a honkytonk would be offensive to a honky. On one dire Saturday afternoon in the middle of a Labor Day weekend in 1998, I was on a college football quest to see Alabama play BYU in the season opener, so I headed back down the mountain for any place with a TV and ESPN. The first placed I came to was "The Last Chance". I was hoping this dump would have just one TV with ESPN. They had a TV alright, but when I asked the barkeep, "Do you have ESPN", he replied "What's that?". I got out of there just in time to make the kick-off at Applebee's in Seneca which was 20 miles more down the road near Clemson. I watched the Tide win a close one (38-31) with two Mormon missionaries who were on the exact same quest as me on that particular day. After Week #11 action, the BDFL will give all teams TWO "last chances" to improve their roster with the annual Waiver Wire Week. Unlike the Supp Draft which runs in an orderly manner, this one is an email "free-for-all" beginning at 11pm on Monday night following the last NFL game of Week #11. In other words, this will be an unrestricted "name it and claim it" type event in which all teams may partake on a first-come, first-serve basis. This is your proverbial "last chance(s)" to improve your team by one player for the playoff portion of the BDFL season. Good luck and good riddance.WR Stills/Mia and add WR Miller/Chi
