From underneath a rock in Media Void

Living under a rock - To be oblivious, or ignorant, to what happens in the outside world. It is used to describe a person who doesn’t know something that any “normal” human being is supposed to know, usually in relation to recent events.

Media Void - A fictitious city in a fictitious country which is free from all types of media and information. Where everybody in the city-state wanders aimlessly around uninformed about everything from the news, to weather, to sports and politics.

Week 15 2018: The Quest for the Grand Daddy Begins...BDCS & BMS First Rounds

Sleds Sickle ‘Dillos:

The question never was: Do the PowerSleds deserve to be in the Big Dance? The question down the stretch in the regular season was: Are the powerful Fairfield PowerSleds ever going to get to 7-wins and above .500, and into the BDCS without being “sidetracked” by the Bullet Rule? In Week 14 of the regular season, the Mean Machine answered that second question. Then in the first round of the playoffs, the Sledheads went out and completely destroyed the Duncanville Armadillos. This one was never close. Mad Jack jumped offsides on the opening kickoff, and that was his only mistake. K.P.’s only mistake was getting off the bus. The PowerSleds rolled up over forty points and held the possums on the half shell to about a dozen, and delivered a big and loud A.W. in the first round of the playoffs, signifying that they are now the “team to beat” in the BDFL.

Upset City – Blue Deacons Knock Off Cheetahs:

Anthony was more than happy to sit around at the “St. E” Christmas party and let folks sit on his lap, and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Let’s just say he also was up for some of that same type of behavior over on Valley Avenue this weekend. And, “ho, ho, ho,” and lo and behold, the country bumpkins known as the Mt. High Bishop Squad left the Southside area (in general) with a huge opening round upset in the Big Daddy Championship Series. The Hayden District Bishop Squad waltzed into the Sin Den, and emerged with a big upset over the Top Seeded Southside Cheetahs, 30-19, to open the post-season in the BDFL. As for Ol’ Neal and his Felines it was certainly a gut punch as the Sin Wagon watches a perfectly good regular season vanish like a you-know-what in the wind.

Woo Crew Survives Close Encounter of the Third Kind:

At the very outset of the video game universe in the 1980s, you had Space Invaders. About that time there was E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And, another re-make of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was making the rounds and showing people what just might be out there. Well, in an “out of this world” game in the First Round of the BDCS, Mukes and Woo met up in a game that would’ve made Spock, Captain Kirk, and Obi Wan Kenobi proud. The Smoke Rise Woosiers and the Shades Creek Sloth Monsters traded laser shots and photon torpedo rounds all afternoon on Sunday. Both teams seemed to be moving at Warp speed at times, even the normally genetically slow Three Toed Tree Dwellers. As the game wore on and the teams ran low on ammunition, it appeared that the “force” was with Tommy T. and his Woo Crew as they emerged from the black hole and the uncharted nebula with a one-point vict’ry over the Sloths.

Wildcats Win Without Recount vs. Dorians:

In the fourth and final game from Round One of the Big Daddy Championship Series, the Western Hills Wildcats played host to the Altadena Dorians. Both team initially felt the “pressure of the playoffs.” But, in the end, it was the defending champions who had just enough ‘intestinal fortitude’ to pull out the vict’ry. The Dorians struggled all day Sunday to score points in this their first year in the BDFL, and their first venture into the “rarified air” of the BDCS. Even though Old Barry’s team played under-par, they still had a chance on Monday Night. Alas, it was not to be. Stephenson’s kicker scored 6-points, but it was a patented “trick play” by the James Gang that gave them the margin of vict’ry on MNF, a 4th & 1, halfback pass, for 50-yards, double fantasy points, proved to be the difference as the Wildcats advance in the Big Dance.

Meanwhile in the Mullet:

Shades Creek Sickles or Shades Cree

Down in the “loser’s bracket,” the Brookside Dogs felt right at home and hammered the Benton Bullets, with a classic Coke bottler to the head; 26-9. The Bullets scored their lowest total of the season and claimed the “Toilet Seat Team of the Weak” award. The “other” Hand Brothers were winners in Round One of the BMS. The Black Creek Freebirds outscored the feisty Jugtown Juggernauts by four, and the Mineral Springs Grenadiers topped the Gulf Coast Gamblers 28-19. The Magic City Mayors picked up a 28-15 win against the Druid City Blitz to close out the tournament’s first round of action at the Florabama.

WEEK 15 in the Jr BDFL - “It’s all about the kids.”

In the Junior League, the top seeded Selma Southpaws were upset by the Rebel City Netters and the Hayden District Bishop Squad scored a weekly high of 51-points to knock off the Canton Bulldog Woofers. Those two teams will meet in the semi-finals next week (Netters vs. HDBS), and the other two teams to advance are the 2nd-seeded Winston County Walkers and the Preserve Onion Turtles.
