RICKA Rule results

GREEN SPRINGS - The Woosiers were first users of league's RICKA Rule this year. First they dropped the cut RB-Cloud/NE for Peterson/CHI and then opted to drop PK-Marler/JAX in favor of Scobee/JAX. The Bootleggers were next when they dropped PK-Nedney/TEN for Tynes/KC then Bullets dropped RB-Anderson/DEN for RB-Lee/DAL. The WWarriors got in the act when they dropped the injured S.Smith/CAR for Proehl/CAR and Bullets finally added Wilson/SF and dropped the injured Galloway/TB. The Mayors have opted to drop RB-Henry/MIA for Johnson/KC. Also, the Juggernauts dropped WR- Rogers/DET for a player to be determined later. Lastly, the league ruled in favor of extending the RICKA Rule one more week because of Hurricane Ivan and the Gamblers picked up Stecker/NO for Davenport/GB.

A mastermind at work

Four division play with the top four teams overall making the playoffs was the work of a mastermind

NASHVILLE - At the 2004 BDFL Genuine Draft when the expansion and the four division format was introduced, skeptics abounded. The BDFL Commissioner, Iron Hand, assured the media that all changes throughout the history of the BDFL were made to make the league better, more competitive and to keep interest at the highest possible level each week. The Commissioner couldn't have been more correct. All teams had a fair shot at making the playoffs and the best four teams in the league were awarded with playoff births and a shot at the 2004 title. The vision and wisdom of the Commissioner shown way back in the summer of 2004 turned out to be down right scary. The media is now forced to search for something else to criticize.

Bootleggers new look

BRISTOL - Bothered by the Fighting Slovaks  "old world" shield invasion to the BDFL in 2004, the Bristol Bootleggers gave a boot to their shield logo. The old Bootleggers shield with a boot, checkered flags, moonshine jug and a lighting bolt is now history. It's been replaced by the new oval mark with a skull and cross bones borrowed from the neighboring ETSU Pirates and a pair of X's to mark East Tennessee's finest corn liquor. The lighting bolt to the head is also a reference to the Stillers white lightning home brew. Look for the Bootleggers new mark all across East Tennessee.

2004 Sup Draft results

GREEN SPRINGS - The annual Supplemental Draft was held on Friday, Nov. 5th at 12 noon at the Original Steakhouse Sports Bar & Grill on Green Springs Highway near Office Depot. This was the last chance for BDFL teams to shore up their rosters for a run at the championship. Each team was allowed to drop up to two position players and replace them with undrafted players. Those teams attending included the Wizards, Woosiers, Mayors, Cheetahs, Blades and Grenades. This is how the participating teams faired in the 2004 Sup Draft...

The BDFL's Final Divisional

Power Rankings

After Week 17

The power in the BDFL still resides in the Gray Beard Division. And we like it that way because quality competition has produced four of the ten BDFL champions and it keeps the whining to a minimum...

1. Gray Beard (1785)

2. Red Neck (1721)

3. Green Horn (1674)

4. Yellow Hammer (1525)

Starters are due on Friday by 7pm

To insure that WARTS runs properly, weekly starters are due in to the BDFL by Frday at 7pm. This gives each team plenty of time to do their research and select their starters. Obviously, late changes due to injury (up to the time games start - usually 12n.) is the only exception. Laziness should not constitute additional work on the BDFL.

Ask Iron?

Q: How do you determine who ends up in third and fourth place?

A: After Week 15 we'll seed the four divisional leaders. 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 in Week 16. Then in Week 17, the winners will play in the Big Daddy Bowl for all the marbles and the losers will play for third place. The loser of the later will be fourth place. Other playoff type games between the rest of the field will determine places 5-16.

Four division play  begins in 2004

GREEN SPRINGS - With the addition of the Helena Fighting Slovaks and the Rocky Ridge Wildcats, the BDFL now has 16 teams which perfect for four divisions of four teams each. This allows all teams an equal chance to compete for a divisional championship and qualify for the new BDFL play-off system. The BDFL's traditional divisions, Gray Beard Division and Green Horn Division, will stay while adding the new Red Neck and Yellow Hammer divisions. The division alignments are designed to take advantage of natural rivalries, demographics and geographic factors. See TheBDFL.com home page for the new 2004 divisional alignments.

Helena Fighting Slovaks

Helena Fighting Slovaks

The Hellions as they are know in their native Slovakia are owned by Adam Ray Slovensky. They derived their name from the Slovaks thousands of years of struggle for independence and are based in Adam's hometown of Helena. Their colors are red, white and blue and will don copper helmets in tribute to the copper mining heritage from their native home. The Slovaks will compete in the Green Horn Division where they are sure to be the BDFL's greenest team for quite a while.

Rocky Ridge Wildcats

The Wildcats are owned by Jerry Cecil James, III and will compete in the BDFL's new Yellow Hammer Division. The Wildcats brought their name with them from the James years in Libertyville, Illinois and are based in Rocky Ridge. Their colors are primarily orange and black with a hint of red for fierceness. With pale orange as a dominate color and being locate at the "Rocky Top" part of Rocky Ridge, the Wildcats are sure to have a Volunteer smell about them.
