Penn
State's Saquon Barkley is looking to be a high draft pick in the
BDFL's 2018 Pony Draft in April
The BDFL's new
Pony Draft herd is thundering
AUDUBON
PLACE
– Their is nothing like the Pony Draft in all of football. The BDFL
drafts college players even before the NFL. The BDFL's Pony Draft is an innovative concept
proposed by Bullet Hand, Chief Editor of the BDFL's The Bulletin,
and mastered by Iron Hand, The Commissioner of the BDFL, over the last
12 years. It is the envy
of all leagues. It is just one round with all 16 teams drafting one
eligible "Pony", or rookie, for the upcoming season. It doesn't get much better than
this. Each season, Iron Hand tries to peg where the best Ponies will end
up in the NFL and then in the BDFL. Last season, Iron Hand hit on Mitch
Trubisky to the Bears and DeShone Kizer to the Browns in the NFL Draft.
He came up zero in the actual Pony Draft for who each BDFL would pick, but there was also a new contest twist last season
where the Freebirds and Da Blitz
correctly picked where their Pony Pick would roam in the NFL with
Christian McCaffrey to the Panthers and O.J. Howard to the Bucs for a
one-half share of the grand prize, a nice size bottle of Jack Daniel's finest
Tennessee whiskey. With a ton of talent in the stable, we'll see how everybody
fares this season.
2018 BDFL Pony
Draft Prospectus
1
RB-Saquon Barkley
PSU
The Lions
have needed a running game since Barry Sanders retired after the
1998 season
2
QB-Baker
Mayfield OU
If
anybody deserves to go to the Browns, it is
this guy. What a tool. Perfect fit, like Johnny
3
QB-Sam Darnold
USC
Over-rated in my
book, but he will command a lot of attention in New York with
the Jets
4
QB-Josh Rosen
UCLA
Broncos
need a quarterback for now and the future. Elway trades up to
draft one like him
5
WR-Courtland
Sutton SMU
The Giants need a lot of help and another
quality receiver opposite OBJ will help some
6
RB-Derrius Guice LSU
Gruden likes
having plenty of weapons and he could be Beast Mode 2.0 for
the Raiders
7
QB-Josh Allen WYO
The
Cardinals are in a rebuilding mode and need a new
quarterback for the new coach
8
QB-Lamar Jackson UL
The
Jaguars could use somebody like Jackson to push Bortles
more, or to drive him out
9
WR-Calvin Ridley ALA
With a possible
QB change in Kansas City the Chiefs will be
looking for more weapons
10
TE-Mark Andrews OU
The
Patriots love to stock pile tight ends and they need
more depth behind Gronkowski
11
WR-James
Washington OKS
The
Saints are pretty thin behind Thomas at wide receiver
and could use a solid #2
12
TE-Mike Gesicki PSU
This Polack will
fit in great in Pittsburgh with the Steelers
who need more depth at TE
13
RB-Bryce Love STN
The 49ers
will need a better running game behind Garopollo. Stayed
at Stanford
14
QB-Mason Rudolph
OKS
If the
Redskins lose Cousins to free agency, they will be
looking for an NFL-ready QB
15
RB-Nick Chubb UGA
Dawg backs have a
history of being successful in the NFL and the Buccaneerscould use one
16
RB-Royce Freeman ORE
The
Panthers go back to Oregon to replace Stewart with
another powerful Duck back
17
RB-Ronald Jones II
USC
The
Seahawks seem to always be in the market for a quality running
back
18
RB-Sony Michel
UGA
It seems like the
Packers always need more running backs and this
guy could be special
19
RB-Kerryon
Johnson AUB
The
Titans will need a back-up for Henry once they deal
Murray, then they can Kerryon
20
WR-Deontay Burnett USC
The
Bengals need another big play wide receiver to
take some pressure off of Green
21
RB-Josh Adams ND
With Gore
probably retiring, the Colts will need another
back to play with Luck and Mack
22
TE-Hayden Hurst
SC
When I watch the Falcons, it still looks like
they need a frontline tight end to me
23
RB-Justin Jackson NW
The Rams
could use a steady change of pace back behind Gurley and they
know talent
24
TE-Dallas Goedert SDS
He already has
the name and the Cowboys will eventually need
to replace Witten
25
WR-Marcell Ateman OKS
Da Bears need more weapons for Trubisky and
Marcell has the perfect bear last name
26
WR-Christian Kirk A&M
The
Ravens have always needed a game breaker on offense and
in the return game
27
WR-Deon Cain CLEM
If you were the
Texans and had Deshaun Watson, would you load
up with receivers?
28
WR-Antonio
Callaway FLA
This guy may be a
head case, but the Eagles are stockpiling
receiver talent for Wentz
29
QB-Ryan Finley NCS
With Cutler,
Tannehill and Moore, the Dolphins have
questions to answer at QB. Stayed at NC State.
30
WR-Anthony Miller MEM
The
Vikings need more depth and athleticism at the wide
receiver position
31
RB-Bo Scarbrough ALA
The Bills
need some depth at the RB position behind McCoy and Bo could
shine in the pros
32
PK-Daniel Carlson AUB
The
Chargers seem to be playing Russian roulette with
kickers, nevermore with Carlson
HM
Here are 64 more draft-eligible Ponies (two per team rule
to make it fair) who received
honorable mention from Iron Hand and where they are predicted to
land in the NFL in no particular order of significance.
Iron Hand hit on five of these players boosting his overall
total to seven (7) players to the predicted team.
Taking out the those who stayed in college (5), those who have
yet to sign (2) and the retiree (1), Iron Hand had a 7.95% rate
placement for Ponies in the 2018 NFL Draft.
