Leonard Fournette goes to the Benton Bullets with the
first pick of the BDFL's 2017 Pony Draft |
Fournette, the first to go in
the BDFL's PD17
He should do
well in the NFL since he won't have to face the Bama defense
BENTON,
AL -
Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd
'Skin-'nérd is the debut album from Lynyrd
Skynyrd, released
in 1973. The album
features several of the band's most well-known songs, including
"Gimme
Three Steps", "Simple
Man", "Tuesday's
Gone" and "Free
Bird", which launched the
band to national stardom. Here's how it all went down...Bassist Leon
Wilkeson left the
band during the album's early recording sessions only playing on
two tracks. Strawberry
Alarm Clock guitarist Ed
King was asked to fill in
for Wilkeson on bass during the remaining sessions, as Wilkeson
already wrote many of the bass parts. This left Skynyrd with
only six official members at the time of the album's release.
Not long after, King remained with the band, and was made a
member, so that they could replicate the triple-guitar lead
during live performances. Wilkeson returned to the band when it
was time to take the photo for the album cover and embark on the
tour for the album. It was certified gold on December 18, 1974,
platinum and 2x platinum on July 21, 1987. The album peaked at
27 in the Billboard 200 in 1975. The album was re-released in
2001 as an expanded version with bonus tracks, including demos
of many of the songs. Featured on the cover of the album is Leon
Wilkeson, Billy
Powell, Ronnie
Van Zant, Gary
Rossington, Bob
Burns, Allen
Collins, and Ed
King. The album cover
photograph was taken on Main Street in Jonesboro,
Georgia. Coincidentally,
the photo of the band is only a few feet away from what would be
the film
scene where Burt
Reynolds and Jerry
Reed loaded the Coors beer
onto the tractor trailer rig in the 1977 film Smokey
and the Bandit four
years later. In 2003, the album was ranked number 403 (which is
ridiculous, this is a top 50 album by all accounts) on Rolling
Stone magazine's
list of the 500
Greatest Albums of All-Time and
has sold an estimated 2 million units internationally.

RB - Leonard Fournette LSU –
The
Bullets go away from their traditional homer pick, to select
Fournette. Leonard could be a terror at the next level without
bonehead coaches calling the plays and since he won't be facing the Bama
defense in the NFL. |
|
2 |
 |
RB - Dalvin Cook FSU –
The Gamblers do not roll the dice in the second slot by putting
the "Cook in the kitchen" at the Beau Rivage. Dalvin has
the talent to be the Ezekiel Elliott
of the 2017 BDFL Pony Draft and should be a hitman for the Dixie
Mafia in Week #1. |
|
3 |
 |
WR
- Mike Williams CLM – The
Wizard is more crafty than he appears. Under that pointed hat and
long dark cape, there is a savvy GM with a couple of BDFL titles
on the mantle in Middle-earth. Mike is the top receiver in this
class and should have a productive season. |
|
4 |
 |
TE - O.J. Howard ALA
– Da Blitz goes da
homer route, but early indicators show Howard being more
productive in the NFL than at Alabamy. The consensus in T-Town
is that Lane Kiffin held back O.J. in the vertical passing game
in favor of a horizontal passing game. |

 |
RB - Christian McCaffrey SU
– The Poarch
Creek Warriors keep it in the Tribe with the former Stanford
Indian. The jury is still out on how McCaffrey's West Coast game will
translate to the NFL. Yes, before political correctness, they
were known as the Stanford Indians. |

 |
RB -
D'Onta Foreman TEX –
The Wildcats make the first "reach" of the Pony Draft with
Foreman. He's loaded with potential, but only showed glimpses of
it at
Texas. However, with the right running back "needy" team,
Foreman could be a starter on opening day.
|
|
7 |
 |
RB - Joe Mixon OU
– The
PowerSleds do not disappoint their Fairfield constitutes by taking the controversial Mixon.
Many of the BDFL's media experts have Mixon rated as the top
back in this class and the Sledheads may be getting the steal of
the draft at #7.
|
|

 |
WR - Corey Davis WMU – The
Sloth Monsters may have hit the 2017 BDFL Pony Draft jackpot
with a Bronco buck. Davis played under the national radar at
Western Michigan, but should continue to "Row the Boat" at a
high altitude in the NFL.
|
|

 |
QB - Deshaun Watson CLM – The
Slovaks shocked the world by taking the best player available.
This is earth-shattering since it has never happened in the
history of the BDFL. Could this be a sign the
EuroTrash
Girls will be prepared for the 2017 BDFL Genuine Draft?

 |
RB
- Samaje Perine OU
– The Cheetahs go with the
"other" talented Boomer rusher. With all the talent in the
world, why can't "Big Game Bob" win the big one? Personally, I
adhere to the "iron sharpens iron" theory and nine Big 12 games
falls in the Tin Man category.
|
|
11 |
 |
WR - John Ross WAS – The
Grenadiers adhere to the "speed kills" philosophy and Ross could
be an assassin for the Fieldstown Bomb Squad. Ross is the
fastest player ever recorded at the NFL Combine and the hope
here is a few big ones over 50 yards in 2017.
|
|
12 |
 |
WR - Dede Westbrook OU – The
Dogs are still digging around in the backyard in the shadows of
Brookside Ball Park looking for a buried treasure with a BDFL
title deed in the treasure chest. However, most know a Pirates'
dream is a sunken chest, not a buried chest.
|
|
13 |
 |
QB - Mitch Trubisky UNC – The
Woosiers go with the young Tar Heel signal caller with a huge
upside. A long shot to start at most places, but could be the
Week #1 starter with five, or six, QB starving clubs like the
Bills, Texans, Niners, Jets, Bears, or Browns.
|
|
14 |
 |
RB - Alvin Kamara TEN – The
Mayors elect the Tide transfer Alvin Karma. Signed by UA with
Derrick Henry, Altee Tenpenny and Tyren Jones, Karma finally
found his place in the rocky hills of Tennessee. With great
speed, he should excel away from his bonehead coach.

|

 |
PK - Zane Gonzalez ASU -
The Armos take a strategic approach to PD17 with the pick of a
kicker in the #15 slot. Gonzo is the top rated kicker in the
class and he'll be drafted by the team with the biggest need at
kicker. Whether he makes their roster, or not, is a toss up.
|
|
16 |
 |
WR - Chris Godwin PSU -
The 2016 BDFL Champions go off the grid to select Godwin. A sure
enough talent as he displayed his skills in the Rose Bowl vs.
USC. However, he will need to get in a linear NFL system to be
productive in his maiden voyage in the BDFL.
