WEEK 16

Dethroned

Former Tider, Najee Harris was the difference maker in the Vulcans BDCS upset over the Mayors

Upstart Vulcans upset the Mayors in BDCS

MAGIC CITY - Mr. Webster defines "dethroned" as a means to remove a ruler, especially a monarch, from power. Noah goes on to say to "dethrone" somebody, is to remove them from a position of authority, or dominance, i.e., "He dethroned the defending titleholder." The term can also be used when you beat someone who is the best at something, especially in sports, and then you become the best yourself, i.e., "The world champion speed skater was dethroned by the young Swedish challenger." In Week 16 of the 2023 BDFL season in the first round of the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS), the upstart North Birmingham Vulcans "dethroned" the Magic City Mayors (33-29) in a monumental BDFL upset and shattered the Mayors' dreams of a three-peat as BDFL Champions. As a side note, the Mayors probably win this one, if their kicker (PK-Hopkins/CLE) doesn't get hobbled during the game. The Mayors drop to 8-8 for the season while the Vulcans improve to 9-7. In other BDCS first round action, the Southside Cheetahs embarrassed the Black Creek Freebirds, 47-3. The Druid City Blitz bombed the Fieldstown Bellcows, 32-21 and the Duncanville Armadillos rolled over the Benton Bullets, 30-14. Week 17 of the BDFL will feature the semi-finals of the BDCS with the Vulcans at Cheetahs and da Blitz at Armadillos as the 2023 BDFL Championship Title chase continues. Week 17 will also feature other BDCS mop-up games to help determine the draft order of the 2024 BDFL Pony Draft.

The Big Mullet

Former Tider and 2023 BDFL Pony pick, Jahmir Gibbs has been force for the Wildcats this season

Wildcats roar past the Dogs in the BMS

GULF SHORES - In the BDFL, the season is not over for any team until after Week 18. Eight teams do quality for the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) to determine the league championship. The other eight clubs who do not make the BDCS get to play in the league's "consolation" bracket known as the Big Mullet Series (BMS). These eight teams compete for three weeks with the winner earning the right to draft first in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft in April. In Week 16 of the BDFL, the Western Hills Wildcats, Fairfield PowerSleds, Gulf Coast Gamblers and Jugtown Juggernauts all advanced in the BMS. Week 17 of the BDFL will feature the semi-finals of the BMS with the PowerSleds vs. Juggernauts and the Wildcats vs. Gamblers. FYI...There will be other mop-up games to be played in the BMS to help determine the draft order of the 2024 BDFL Pony Draft.
