WEEK 14

Resiliency

WORM Hole pick-up Jake Browning and the Sloth Monsters have shown resiliency this season

The Sloth Monsters severed the Vulcans

SHADES CREEK - Alabama's head football coach Nick Saban talks a lot about his 2023 Crimson Tide team as being "resilient", but what exactly does that word mean. Mr. Webster defines resiliency as "the ability to recover from, or adjust easily to adversity, or change". The 2023 Bama squad has certainly run into some adversity this season, some inflicted by others like the Texas Longhorns at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Week 2, to some other self-inflicted wounds like the coaching staff benching starting quarterback Jalen Milroe in Tampa against South Florida and the numerous bad snaps along the way that led to the ultimate show of resilience on 4th and goal from the 31-yard line and the incredible comeback down on the Plains, now simply known as "The Gravedigger". Most will say to win an SEC Championship and to capture a National Championship, a team must overcome adversity by showing some resiliency along the way and this Tide team's "pluck and grit" has a chance to "writ her name in Crimson flame". In the BDFL resiliency equals pluck and grit. It may not always win you a BDFL Championship Title, but it is appreciated by the Commissioner of the BDFL, Iron Hand, and admired by the other members of the BDFL. No other team best exemplifies resiliency this season than the Shades Creek Sloth Monsters. Faced with a weekly rendezvous with the league's Dreaded Schedule Maker (DSM), the three-toed Tree Huggers have hung in there tight and despite a horrendous record (2-11) going into Week 14, they never complained, never gave up hope, nor mailed it in at any point during the season. They never blamed anybody, never pointed a finger at anybody including their opponents, or the league's officials and their resiliency finally paid off. In Week 14 of the 2023 BDFL season, the Sloth Monsters got points from seven starting positions to sever the Vulcans 44-32 at the Hoover Metropolitian Stadium (The Met). Don't be surprised to see the Slothsters make a big showing in the upcoming Big Mullet Series (BMS) down in Gulf Shores this post-season.

Playoff Drama

The Benton Bullets are hoping Tua Tagovailoa can catapult them into the BDFL's 2023 BDCS

The 2023 Big Daddy Championship Series

TITLETOWN - The Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) has a time-tested formula to produce a true BDFL champion each season. The four division winners with a minimum of seven wins get in first, as champions of their domain. This assures equal representation of each division to please the most liberal amongst us, something the Power 5 commissioners couldn't seem to grasp several years ago. These guaranteed divisional positions are based on total points with at least seven wins, so right now that would be the Mayors, Armadillos, Freebirds and Blitz. The next four slots are wild card slots and go to the next four highest point teams with at least seven wins irregardless of division, so right now that would be the Cheetahs, Bellcows, Juggernauts and Vulcans. These last four slots can be the tricky spots since only 21 points currentley separate the Bullets, Juggernauts, Vulcans and Dogs. Plus, if the Bullets get to seven wins their point total could catapult them over all three of these clubs and it would bump at least two of the three out of playoff contention. Points are a premium in the BDFL while wins serving as a steady barometer for consistency throughout the season and to assure no team wins the title with a losing record like they had in the stupid XFL last season. Once the eight teams have earned their spot in the BDCS, they are seeded 1-8 throughout the playoffs with #1 being the highest seeded team. This is not a bracketed tournament like the NCAA's since seeded match-ups continue in the semi-final round in Week 17. The BDFL regular season ends after Week 15, so we have one more week to sort this all out. However, if the season ended after Week 14, here is how the 2023 BDCS would look with the division champs in white letters and the wild cards clubs in gold letters...
