Week 16 - Semi-Finals of the Big Daddy Championship Series and the Big Mullet Series

Sleds Bash Blitz to Advance to Big Daddy Bowl:

The Fairfield PowerSleds are one win away from a BDFL Championship. In the semi-final round of the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS), the Sleds bashed the Druid City Blitz, 40-28. The Gritz Blitz put up a good fight after their “fluke” Round One controversial, overtime vict’ry against the Cheetahs, but in the end, Fritz’s team was no match for the Mean Machine. Mad Jack Barnes (no longer Slovensky) is now the favorite to win it all, and we’ll see if the pressure gets to him from being temporarily on top of the pyramid. The Sledheads appear to be focused as they “turn up the volume” for a trip to Big Daddy Bowl XIX to battle for the Grand Daddy Trophy in an unlikely title game against an unlikely opponent.

Bellcows Graze to Finals in Rout of ‘Dillos:

The “unlikely” opponent for the Sleds in next week’s Big Daddy Bowl will be the Fieldstown Bellcows. The heifers have been “feelin’ it,” in 2020 and hope to stretch that luck, fate, awareness, and prowess into the first weekend of 2021. The laid back and naïve Bellcows have snuck up on everyone in the BDFL this season, and now they are just one win away from taking home the biggest prize in Fantasy Football, the coveted Grand Daddy Trophy. In Week 16, Belrose’s Cows blew past the Duncanville Armadillos, 38-20, in a game that was not an official A.W., but for all intents and purposes… was a first-class whipping. K.P.’s “Little ol’ Team from Texas,” had a pretty good year, reaching the semi-finals, but the ‘Dillos were no match for the Bellcows. K.P. plans to recoup from the loss with a flight home from Charlotte to Texas, a visit to Duncanville, a trip to the Rose Bowl (in Texas), and various other activities to soothe the loss. As for Belrose… he plans to throw his Bellcows in front of the fast-moving PowerSleds in the Championship Game and hope for the best.

From Bad to Worse - Cheetahs Absorb A.W. from BioCats:

The previously #1 seeded Southside Cheetahs saw their season only get worse in Week 16. Still steaming from an overtime, upset loss in the opening round of the BDCS, the Sin Wagon was completely blind-sided and derailed in the semi-finals by the Western Hills Wildcats. The Cheetahs scored 31-points and were still defeated in A.W. fashion by the BioCats. So… Butch slides for the second week in a row, and sees his once promising season go down the bowl. Meanwhile, the “James Gang” comes up with their first A.W. of the season and feel like they will have momentum going into bowl season and into next year.

Grenadiers Rebound with Ten Point Win:

Eliminated from title contention last week, the Mineral Springs Grenadiers rebounded in Round Two with a 20-10 vict’ry over the Altadena Dorians. The Commissioner and the Appointed Election Official both kinda mailed in their efforts in this Week 16 game, where the Dorians tied for the “week low” in total points with 10, but somehow managed to escape the Toilet Seat honors. The Commissioner picked up a vict’ry but scored only 20-points and would have lost to ten other BDFL teams, but the consolation bracket laid out in ol’ Iron’s favor. Both of these teams will be relatively easy targets in the final weekend of the BDFL season and the final weekend of the regular season in the National Football League.

Blue Deacons Peaking Late – Top Gamblers by Four:

One of the worst teams in the BDFL all season long, the Mt. High Blue Deacons have awakened in the post-season. The dead-last seeded team will play for the chance to get the number one Pony Pick in the upcoming Big Mullet Bowl. The surprising Hayden District Bishop Squad (HDBS) earned a four-point win in Week 16, by topping the Gulf Coast Gamblers, 24-20. The Bishops have no idea what they have done right in the last two weeks, but they appear to be taking that same oblivious mode into the finals of the Big Mullet Series (BMS) in Week 17. As for the Gamblers, they let of their “home town” supporters down in the BMS and now they will just play out the string this coming weekend.

Dogs Still Basking and Advancing:

“The Dogs Ain’t Done,” read one of the signs at the BDFL’s version of College GameDay this past weekend on the banks of the Five Mile Creek in Brookside. The show was there – even for the lowly Mullet Series – to illustrate the celebrating and “basking,” still taking place on behalf of the people of Brookside over their improbable 2019 BDFL Championship. Even though the Dogs can’t win it all this season, the fans in Brookside are still 100-percent behind their team and a chance to win another bracket this season and capture a smaller title and the top Pony Pick that comes with it. As for the Jugtown Juggernauts – who recently won a “coolest nickname in the BDFL contest,” A.E.’s team returned to form in Week 16. Except for two games (both against the Bullets) where the ‘Nauts scored well over 30-points, the “All Girls Band,” managed only 11-points in an embarrassing 23-11 loss to Mark’s Mutts.

Bullets Defeat Sloths in Big Mullet Big Reunion:

Mr. Jim Beam, Uncle Jack Daniels, and Old George Dickle showed up for a reunion of sorts at Harry’s Bar in T-Town this past weekend between the holidays, and they invited Mukes and Bullet. The pair showed up and decided to play out their Big Mullet Series game in cyberspace right there at 1330 Hargrove Road in Tuscaloosa. Needless to say, it was a “spirited” matchup between the Three Toed Tree Dwellers and the Benton Bullets. Mukes was able to get Scott Allen to “watch the bar,” and Bullet recruited Rusty Thompson to “work the door,” so they were able to battle it out in the Second Round of the BMS. It was a real “hum dinger,” but the Bullets were able to defeat the Sloth Monsters by the final score of 25-21 in an instant classic.

Mayors Keep Sliding, Earn Toilet Seat Distinction:

To close out the consolation bracket, the Magic City Mayors stunk it up for the 2nd straight week, and were defeated by the Fultondale Freebirds, 19-10. The Cronies were awarded the “Toilet Seat Team of the Weak,” for their efforts in Week 16, and the F’Birds were just glad to avoid going to the Toilet Bowl in Week 17. One more week remains in the BDFL post-season, and the Mayors and Sloth Monsters will try will all their might to avoid finishing dead last.

In the JrBDFL:

The IronLegs (Wade Mason) and Selma King Henry Southpaws (Matthew Hand) continue to battle for the championship in the Junior League. The title game stretches over Week 16 and 17 in NFL action, and the IronLegs hold a slight edge in the Junior Bowl over the top-seeded Southpaws with a full slate of games on the schedule to decide a winner between a founding league member (Matthew) and a first year player (Wade). Both will pause on Jan. 1 to pull for the Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl – in Texas – before cranking things up again for the JrBDFL showdown.
