From underneath a rock in Media Void
The Bulletin is going out on a
different limb this week. This publication is illustrating with a few
one-line headlines that losses in life (and especially high school
football) stay with you longer and stir more feelings than vict’ries,
and maybe that’s so in the Big Daddy Football League. These headlines
deal only with GHS, but The Bulletin is sure some of these
happened in Duncanville, Fairfield, Tuscaloosa, and Parts Unknown. If
you have insight to any of these, email ‘em to The Bulletin and
we’ll try to include them next week. Walter Wellborn gets pick six on QB
throwback The Texas Armada Continues Their Roll Through Alabama In agonizing fashion for the Mineral
Springs Grenadiers, and ecstatic echoes for the Duncanville Armadillos,
the most thrilling game in Week 9 in the BDFL matched these two teams,
in a four-quarter shootout. K.P.’s fiery, but short, ‘Dillos stormed
into Mineral Springs and managed to out-score the home team in a barn
burner. Duncanville jumped out to an early lead, and then managed to
keep pace with the Commissioner’s team the rest of the way. When it
finally looked like the Grenadiers were going to take the lead, they
called an ill-advised quarterback throwback pass that ended in disaster
and a Pick Six for the visitors and vict’ry for the Armadillos. Thomas Coffee runs wild in first quarter Dorians Open Up A Can Against Nauts: Week 9 in the BDFL produced a grand total
of two A.W.’s and was marked by a number of close games. The match-up
between the Altadena Dorians and the Jugtown Juggernauts was the former,
a big, old, hairy, A.W. The ‘Nauts never stood a chance in this one as
they decided to go the practice week without pads, and before they knew
it, they fell behind 18-0 in the early going. A.E.’s team could never
get it going and ended up taking a huge A.W. by the final score of
48-17. It was a huge win for the Dorians who wanted to perform their
best in their return to Ed Bruce Field at Driver Stadium on the campus
of Gardendale High School. Glencoe wins by one in the rain Cheetahs Notch A.W. Over Mayors In The
Rain In a torrential downpour, the Southside
Cheetahs ran wild over their long-time rivals. The Sin Wagon rolled over
the Magic City Mayors, 37-15, and over-qualified for an A.W. by one
point in this 22-point win. The Cheetahs were strong early and often,
tough to beat in the middle, and closed with a vicious stretch run to
completely and totally over-run the Cronies. All the Mayors can possibly
hope for is to be able to catch to Sin Cats in the playoffs to enact
some revenge. Despite Jerome’s (Jackson) efforts, Erwin
wins Bullets Demand Re-Count After Gut
Wrenching Loss To Sleds: After losing to the PowerSleds by a
narrow margin (29-26), the Benton Bullets are officially launching a
recount of the points and an investigation into the starters for the
Fairfield PowerSleds. The Bullets were under the impression that UGa
Bookworm Kicker was kicking for the Mean Machine. That would have given
the Bullets a 26-25 vict’ry, which the old Bullerino was celebrating
after the Sunday Night NFL game. However, when the preliminary result
were posted by the fake news media, AP, and other entities, the kicker
listed for the Sledheads was a different dude. Therefore, the published
final score had the Sled defeating the Bullets 29-26, and controversy
covering the pages of the tabloids and The Bulletin. At this
point, hanging chads are being looked at as well as improprieties at the
BDFL from the @$$ scoring system all the way to the top of the
hierarchy. Cullman gets revenge on Silver Spoons BioCats Top Freebirds: The Black Creek Freebirds were simply not
ready to play in Week 9 in the BDFL and they were run off the field by
the most unlikely of characters: the Western Hills Wildcats. The F’birds
had everything to play for but just came out flat against a fired-up
BioCats team that just seemed to want it more. Hime Hand’s team just
could not seem to get the grass out of their hind parts in the early
going of the NFL week and got worse as the weekend continued. Meanwhile,
the James Gang kept plugging along, and when the final whistle blew, the
BioCats had a six-point win over the stunned and confused Freebirds. Curtis Stewart runs wild at Cramton Bowl Dogs Slip Past Blitz By Three: The Brookside Dogs have put themselves in
a position to defend their 2019 BDFL Championship. As a chill begins to
fill the air, and the leaves begin to turn, Mark’s Mutts are amassing
total points and vict’ries in an effort to do the impossible (again),
and bring Brookside another title. The Druid City Blitz stayed with the
Dogs throughout Week Nine, but when the smoke cleared from Brookside
Ballpark on the Banks of the Five Mile Creek, the home team had notched
yet another win and moved closer to – once again – making hist’ry. Jelks & Rose top Jarvis & Bucket by one Bellcows Graze to Vict’ry in OT: The Fieldstown Bellcows appear to be
living right. Belrose’s team entertained the Gulf Coast Gamblers this
past weekend, and took every shot the Gambino’s could deliver. The Bell
Heads stood toe-to-toe with Kenny B. & Company as the two teams slugged
it out for 60-minutes. However, sixty minutes was not enough. This game
went into overtime, and the Bellcows were able to pull out an improbably
vict’ry over the Gamblers by virtue of the longest play (which still
stands as the official tiebreaker in the BDFL). Freddie Weygand outduels Roderick Green Bishop Beats Mukes: It has been a tough year for the Hayden
District Bishop Squad (HDBS). Bishop has had to deal with a lot of heavy
duty bull stuff in 2020, and his BDFL team hasn’t been very good. In
fact, they’ve been mostly awful. But, in Week Nine action, the Mt. High
Blue Deacons got their minds right, and they came out and played a near
flawless game against the Sloth Monsters. The Bishops earned the win
against the Three Toed Tree Dwellers by two points and have proven that
they are not-dead-yet in the 2020 Big Daddy Football League season. In the Junior League: In the JrBDFL, the Selma King Henry
Southpaws held onto the top spot with a hard fought vict’ry over the
Lowndes County Labs in Week 9. The rest of the standings and results can
be found on the ESPN app, if you have clearance and the password…
The Bulletin doesn’t.
