Week 17 - Bowl Week and the finals of the Big Daddy Championship Series and the Big Mullet Series

Sleds Win Big Daddy Bowl – Claim Grand Daddy Trophy:

The Fairfield PowerSleds are champs again. The Mean Machine has climbed to the summit of the Big Daddy Football League. Mad Jack Barnes has claimed the title for the 2020 season and the right to hoist the “Helmet O’ Silver,” the greatest prize in Fantasy Football, the Grand Daddy Trophy. The 2nd seeded PowerSleds won in dominating fashion in the BDCS Championship Game. The Sleds defeated the Fieldstown Bellcows in the Big Daddy Bowl by the final score of 56-22, making it an official A.W. The Bellcows – in their 2nd BDFL season – made a good run, and reached the title game, but they were no match for the Metal Heads in the biggest game of the season. So, Mad Jack Barnes walks away with the big prize by winning the Big Daddy Championship Series and he will celebrate in fine fashion in Fairfield.

Dogs to Continue Basking – After Rallying to Win the Big Mullet Series:

Speaking of celebrating, the Brookside Dogs made it an art form after winning the championship last season. And, thanks to a big rally late in the season, the Dogs can keep it going on a slightly smaller scale. Mark’s Mutts won the Big Mullet Series (BMS), coming from the 6th seeded position to capture the first pick in the 2021 Pony Draft in the Spring. The Dogs won the consolation tournament by defeating the Mt. High Blue Deacons in the final round of tournament, 36-16. It was one point short of an A.W., but like the Alabama vs. Notre Dame Rose Bowl in Arlington, Texas… it was one that was never in doubt. So, the former Super Banker turned Synaflex Rubber Tycoon can now get his fans on the banks of the Five Mile Creek to continue to celebrate.

Blitz Closes Strong with A.W. over ‘Dillos:

The Druid City Blitz rebounded from being bounced out of the winner’s bracket of the BDCS, by destroying the Duncanville Armadillos. The Fritz Gritz Blitz ripped the ‘Dillos in an epic A.W., by holding K.P. & Company to just 10-points and getting the win, 34-10. Different teams put up varying levels of effort and intensity in games that are not for the top spot, and while the Blitz played with pride and passion, the ‘Dillos were occupied with activities in Texas in and around the Rose Bowl with family, friends, and the Hands (Chris, Jerome, Jaimie, Matthew, Milton, & Nic). Prewitt did an excellent job in his former home state of navigating and playing the “host with the most,” routine in addition to providing Texas Trivia and insight to the Lone Star State. At press time, KP (who hit .382 in 1985 at Alabama to finish 10th in the SEC) was mulling over plans to go to South Florida for Alabama’s match-up with Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Grenadiers Finish Strong with Win over Wildcats:

The Commissioner and his Mineral Springs Grenadiers benefitted from a visit to Big D, with a follow-up win in his beloved BDFL by defeating the Western Hills Wildcats, 29-20. The Grenadiers gutted out the vict’ry by paying attention to detail and taking advantage of tendencies that put the Mildcats at a disadvantage. The “James Gang” just couldn’t overcome the excellent game-planning by The Commissioner and their own mistakes, including long stretches in the game where Jerry just couldn’t get out of his own way. The win sends the Grenadiers into the off-season with a good taste in their mouth and with thoughts and feelings of maybe changing their nickname back to the original Hand Grenades.

Chapped Cheetahs Finally Win Again:

The Southside Cheetahs lost a gut-wrenching, overtime game in the first round of the playoffs. The loss cost the Sin Wagon a shot at the championship. The defeat was more than just traumatic for the quarantined cats. It was embarrassing for Butch. To add insult to injury, the Cheetahs lost again in the second round after reeling and expressing displeasure with the front office of the league itself. However, in the final round of the playoffs, the Cheetahs finally tasted vict’ry again by defeating the Altadena Dorians in a close game, 39-32.

Meanwhile, in the Mullet… Freebirds Bomb Bullets:

After a travel trip to Texas, the Freebirds and Bullets returned home, and turned their attention to their all-brother BDFL game. Well, at least the Fultondale Freebirds did… the Benton Bullets were still basking in the glow of Alabama’s Rose Bowl vict’ry over the Fighting Irish. Jaimie’s F’birds ran the Bullets out of the stadium in A.W. fashion by dominating in every aspect of the game, 44-18.

Nauts Texas Two-Step Past Gamblers:

The Jugtown Juggernauts also benefitted from a trip to Dallas-Ft.Worth. Allyson’s ‘Nauts returned to BDFL/NFL action with a surprise win over the Gulf Coast Gamblers, 26-20. A.E. picked up some key information from the Hands of Benton, Alabama in Section 319 of AT&T Stadium on Friday afternoon, and utilized that data in downing the Dixie Mafia by a touchdown to close out the season on a high note, before she makes further preparations for another trip to Joe Robbie Stadium/SunTrust Stadium/Dolphins Stadium/Hard Rock Stadium.

Mayors Slip Past Sloths, 28-21:

A touchdown decided the “Toilet Bowl” at the bottom of the Big Mullet Series on Sunday. The Sloth Monsters were the losers and the Magic City Mayors were the winners. The Cronies got to finish off with a win and the Three Toed Tree Dwellers get to claim the dead-last, 16th place finish in the Big Daddy Football League.

In the JrBDFL:

The IronLegs (Wade Mason) and Selma King Henry Southpaws (Matthew Hand) battled for two weeks before the IronLegs captured the championship. Matthew was crushed emotionally after leading the season from wire-to-wire before faltering in the finals. Congrats to the IronLegs and Wade for winning the title in his first season in the league.
