Week 14 - The fish wrapper goes to bird cage liner

Sleds Sickle Sloths, 71-9, in Epic A.W.:

Sometimes you’re the watermelon, sometimes you’re the pavement. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you get rained out. You sometimes take an epic @$$-whipping. In the last week of the regular season, the powerful PowerSleds flexed their muscle with a 71-9 win over the Sloth Monsters. This one was ugly, and it was ugly early, and the Mean Machine poured it on Mukes, as the Sleds slide into the Big Daddy Championship Series and the Three Toed Tree Dwellers drop (without plausible thumbs) to the nether regions of the Big Mullet Series. You could say that these are two teams moving in opposite directions and the one with the huge limp… is the Sloth Monsters.

Freebirds Defiant in Demolition of ‘Dillos:

Jaimie Hand said (in an email), “I lost 2 games by 1pt (thanks Chris), 1 game by 2pts... and 1 game on a tie-breaker... thanks Bullet.” (The world’s smallest violin is playing softly, and slowly for Jaimie’s team that was so unfairly treated by the Big Daddy Football League in 2020.) So, after the Black Creek Freebirds were eliminated from the BDCS under the “Bullet Rule,” – and because they didn’t win enough games – they took out their frustrations in Week 14 against the Duncanville Armadillos. The team – formerly known as the Wooden Warriors – demolished the ‘Dillos, 40-27, and it wasn’t near as close as the final score would indicate. Continuing the “George Costanza Opposite” effect… the winner in this game – Freebirds – are heading to the Big Mullet Series (as the #1 seed) and the losers – Armadillos – are going to the Big Dance as the #4 seed with a 401-point total and a 7-7 record.

Cheetahs Crush Deacons in A.W. Fashion:

The Number One Seed in the BDCS is the Southside Cheetahs. Butch’s Sin Wagon has been rolling all year. In Week 14, the Cheetahs put an A.W. on the Mt High Blue Deacons, 48-24. This one was over, and over early as the Cheetahs charge into the post season, and the Hayden District Bishop Squad (HDBS) slinks to the BMS with the worst overall point total in the BDFL. To put it succinctly, the Deacons are 16th out of 16 teams. So, from the penthouse (Cheetahs) to the Blount County outhouse (Blue Deacons) the post-season is set to begin with “something on the line,” for every team. A championship is at stake for the winner of the BDCS and the coveted Grand Daddy Trophy, and the first pick in the 2021 Pony Draft is the prize for the winner of the Big Mullet Series.

Blitz Pulls One Out Sideways vs. Bellcows and BDFL:

The Bulletin buried the lead. The biggest story (arguably) in Week 14 in the BDFL and the last weekend of the regular season, was the Druid City Blitz’ last second blitz into the Big Dance. Jerry Fritz’ team rode the coat tails of Lamar “The Star” Jackson to a Monday Night Miracle. The former Heisman Trophy QB from Johnny U.’s Louisville rallied the Ravens to vict’ry over the Browns, and catapulted the Gritz Blitz into the 8th and final spot in the BDCS. The final flurry by the Blitz pushed them past the Gulf Coast Gamblers by a final total season, total points total of 253 to 250. Even though the Fieldstown Bellcows tasted defeat in the last game of the regular season, Belrose’s team will head to the Big Dance with a legitimate chance to win it all.

Bullets Dump Dogs, 32-18:

The team that won it all in 2019, the Brookside Dogs, will not be able to defend their championship in the BDCS. Marks Mutts stunk it up in 2020, mainly due to their philosophy of “basking in the glow” of their past championship, which they will continue to do until someone pries the Grand Daddy Trophy out of their cold, dead, hands. “We’re have no plans to give it up,” said Dog. “We’ll demand recounts, sue, and just not show up for the Super Bowl Gala, to hold onto the Helmet O’ Silver.” So, the BDFL will have to deal with that situation as it plays out. Another team joining the Dogs in the BMS will be the Benton Bullets. The Bullerino had a decent season in 2020. They finished 9th in total points, but due to the “Bullet Rule,” they couldn’t make the BDCS, because they had a losing record. At any rate, they’ll be a tough out in the consolation bracket with the likes of Drake, Amari, and Jalen Hurts in their starting line-up.

Jugtown Goes Uptown in OT Win:

The Jugtown Juggernauts and the Magic City Mayors are headed to the Big Mullet Series. Both have long since been eliminated from the Big Dance weeks ago, but that didn’t stop them from battling into overtime in Week 14. In fact, like a MACtion game on a random Tuesday, or Wednesday night in late October or early November, this game was actually entertaining. There were several lead-changes, turnovers, and exciting plays highlighted under the “Mizlou Iso-light,” that were worth watching and re-watching. Then, to top it off, the game went to overtime. At the very end, it was the ‘Nauts that found a way to “Vict’ry Lane,” with a tie-breaking big play to upset the Cronies.

BioCats Beat Bomb Squad, 27-18:

The team formerly known as the Gut Grenades or Hand Grenades were “blown up” in the last week of the regular season by the Western Hills Wildcats, 27-18. Both teams have enjoyed successful seasons and will take their best shots in the BDCS beginning on Thursday Night. However, in Week 14, the BioCats had the upper “hand” on the Mineral Springs Grenadiers. The “James Gang” ran out to an early lead and then cruised down the stretch to get the vict’ry. As lower seeds in the Big Dance, both of these teams will be underdogs in Round One, but will still get to battle for the opportunity to wield the Grand Daddy Trophy at the end of the 2020 season.

Gamblers Lose Game – Lose Shot at BDCS:

The Gulf Coast Gamblers will not get a chance to hold the Helmet O’ Silver aloft this season. The Gamblers had an outside shot at the 8th spot in the BDCS, and actually looked to be “in” until Monday Night Football. The Dixie Mafia was victim to the “odds – evening out,” in the last NFL game of Week 14, and the Real Deal Breal lost out to the Fritz Gritz Blitz by only three points in the overall standings category. By the time the MNF game rolled around, the Gamblers had already lost its final game of the regular season to the Altadena Dorians by the final score of 22-17. Old Barry will take aim at his first BDFL title as the 6th seed in the Big Dance, with a team that could turn a lot of heads in the post-season.

Meanwhile in the JrBDFL:

The post-season is already underway in the Junior League. The final four are locked in a two-week type semi-final match-up over Weeks 14 and 15 in the NFL, and the two winners will square-off in the Championship Game over Weeks 16 and 17 in the NFL. It’s a different type of playoff in the JrBDFL, but one that does carry some intrigue. The other four teams are in some kind of consolation bracket of sorts with no one receiving a participation trophy (or ribbon) when the season is over.
