The Dorians get their Sweet 7th win

WESTERN HILLS - Alice Cooper, David Bowie, T. Rex, Elton John, Queen, Iggy Pop, New York Dolls, KISS, Roxy Music, Slade and Sweet. As 70s glam rock music goes, the British glam rock band "Sweet" never really got their due back in their heyday, but time has been kind to their legacy. Half the band is six feet under, but their music is still relevant today with a recent cameo of Fox On The Run during an episode of the current Netflix original Mindhunter as evidence. The band was formed in London in 1968 and they were always a much bigger deal overseas than they ever were in the States. The band's best known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Brian Connolly, bass player Steve Priest, guitarist Andy Scott, and drummer Mick Tucker. The group was originally called "Sweetshop" because they rehearsed above one and it was fitting since their early sound was more bubblegum pop than hard rock. The band's name was shortened to "The Sweet" when the word "shop" was left off the marque at a gig. The group later changed its moniker to just plain "Sweet". To call these guys a one-hit-wonder is just wrong. My favorite Sweet tunes have always been Little Willy (1972), The Ballroom Blitz (1973), Fox On The Run (1975) and the classic Love Is Like Oxygen (1978). Connolly died in 1997 and Tucker in 2002 and believe it or not, the two surviving members are still active with their own respective versions of the band with Scott's version based in the United Kingdom and Priest's version based in the United States. In Week 13 of the BDFL, the Dorians got to their sweet seventh vict'ry on the season by taming the Wildcats 29-27 to make them eligible for Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) consideration.

BDFL NEWS

The Big Daddy Championship Series

TITLETOWN - The BDFL is an equal opportunity organization, maybe too much so, but so be it. With a somewhat liberal post-season format, the BDFL allows for half of the league's teams to compete for the championship title in the annual Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) during Weeks 15-17. However after Week 14, the end of the regular season, there is a regimented process to qualify for the prestigious BDCS post-season playoffs. First off, all four (4) division winners with at least seven (7) wins get an automatic bid in to the BDCS. The remaining four (4)"wild card" teams come from the next four (4) highest point teams with at least seven (7) wins. Then all eight (8) BDCS teams are seeded 1-8 based on their overall regular season point totals for the first round match-ups. This assures that the best teams of the regular season do not eliminate each other in the first round, or the semi-finals, regardless of their division. After the first round, the four (4) winning teams retain their post-season seed number and are then matched up accordingly in the semi-finals (1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3, as examples) to help retain the value and worth of their regular season efforts. In other words, every game matters in the BDFL. In historic fashion last season, the 8th seeded Mt. High Blue Deacons ran the table in the BDCS to win their first title. So therefore, every team really does have a legitimate shot to win a BDFL Championship Title, if you can qualify for the BDCS.
