Sin Wagon rocks up and rolls over the 'Nauts

GARDENDALE, AL - For some reason this BDFL game reminded me of the alternative country (alt-country) classic Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show from their 2004 debut album O.C.M.S. Probably, because I got to thinking about the song's quirky video. For your information, not too many alt-country classic songs came out of 2004, but this one did and it was unique for different reasons. To begin with, it was co-written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor of OCMS totally separate from each other and twelve years apart. Dylan had written the chorus and melody of "Rock Me Mama" during the Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid recording sessions in 1973, but the lyrics were rudimentary and the song was never fully developed, or officially released. Secor heard a bootleg recording from teenage friend and fellow OCMS band member, Chris Fuqua, in 1985 and penned his romantized hitch-hiking story verses around Dylan's original chorus. Secor's additional lyrics transformed "Rock Me Mama" into Wagon Wheel and the rest is music history. Secor and Dylan share equally in the copyrights of the song. Wagon Wheel never got any radio airplay (duh?) and its rise to classic status can be traced to friends sharing it with one another and the cult video.
