"Fear the Slovaks" resonates in the BDFL

BANGOR, AL - As a rule, Slovaks are well versed in canoeing, fishing, gambling, barbecuing, pottery making, soccer-style kicking, mining and beer drinking. Combine any two and you could be in trouble. Hit on all eight and it is a recipe for disaster. It all started with the Dreaded Schedule Maker (DSM) and a game with the Woosiers in West Blount County. The Slovaks saw this as a chance to take their Boy Scout Troop #64 northward and see the greater Smoke Rise area for a weekend excursion. Led by Uncle Phil, the pack of Slovaks canoed up the Mulberry Fork for some serious sucker fishing and clay pottery making along the banks of the river on Saturday. They followed it up that night with a visit to the Top Hat barbecue restaurant in Blount Springs for a lesson in smoked pork and on Sunday, they headed further north to Bangor Cave for Indian poker, stalactite mining and kicking lessons at nearby St. Bernard. Then once the boys had all fallen asleep, there was some late night PBR for Uncle Phil, Petey Meadows and Adam back at Stuckey’s just off I-65. When the stars align like this, you have to “Fear The Slovaks”.

BDFL Week #8: The Mistake on The Lake Week

CLEVELAND - With the Rust Belt getting so much attention these days, the BDFL is jumping in with everything Cleveland in Week #8. Bernie, Sipe, Kelly, Slovaks, Jednota, The Flats, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Drive, LeBron, Cavs, Indians, Browns, Crusaders, Ozzie, Art Modell, Schaffer Beer, The Cars, The Michael Stanley Band, etc. For every mistake you make next week on your “weekly starters” submission, one Cleveland “tough luck” point will be deducted from your total score for the week.
