The Totem Pole

Why are the WWarriors always the bridesmaids?

by Mel Kiper, Jr.

FOXBORO - As a role player must play his role, the Wooden Warriors are usually picked to play the BDFL's role as the bridesmaid and they have performed admirably over the years. So well in fact that if the BDFL had an Oscar award at the end of the year for playing their role, the Wooden Warriors would own it. By the way, the league named an annual year-end award after the Tribe to honor their predictable futility called "Kawliga's Bridesmaid Award". The Warriors are always good and expect them to field a competitive club that will challenge for the Green Horn divisional title, however, just don't expect them to win the big one and don't be surprised when they finish second.

The Noles and Poles connection

by Bobby Bowden

TALLASSEE - You know I started my coaching career in Birmingham just like the Woodies' Ed Bruce. I guess that's where the similarities got started. Then when I went on to greatness and legendary status at FSU (Free Shoes University) and the BDFL got started and Lil' Bocephus (Jaimie Hand) wanted to pattern his team in Black Creek after us in Tallahassee. Hime always did like Burt as the Bandit and me as Buford T. Justice from the Smokey and the Bandit days, so I understand his obsession with the program, so then came the nickname, color scheme and logo similarities. We just like to refer to them as the 'Poles just like our FSU 'Noles.

   THE BIG STORY

WWarriors are ready for some football as the 2006 season approaches

BLACK CREEK - Hank Jr. and the Woodies are definitely ready for some football and they'll get the ball rolling in April when they look to add some youth to the line-up in the upcoming Rolling Rock Pony Draft. Brodie Croyle and Darrell Hackney will be on their wish list as they select late in the new draft of incoming rookies.
