Week 17: Go West Young Man

Titans Radio’s Weekly Fantasy Football Report

By Chris Hanson from Big Daddy Football

In Week 16, we probably had our best week of the season nailing the top three backs of the week in order with Ron Dayne/HOU, Steven Jackson/STL and Shaun Alexander/SEA all rushing for over 140 yards and each scoring two touchdowns apiece.

We also got touchdowns from Ben Roethlisberger/PIT, Chad Pennington/NYJ, Marques Colston/NO, and Javon Walker/DEN. So overall, it was a great week for our picks.

Here’s this week’s “Picks to Click”...

Running Backs

Ronnie Brown/MIA – Brown had over 115 yards rushing last week in the loss to the Jets, and Indianapolis is last in the league against the run, so we like Brown to run wild on the artificial turf on Sunday at the RCA Dome.

Leon Washington/NYJ – Washington has had to share time in the backfield with Kevan Barlow this season, but we think he’ll be the money man this week as the Jets run their way to a playoff birth against the awful Oakland defense at home.

Chester Taylor/MIN – Taylor has had a very productive year as the starter for the Vikings and we see him finishing strong against the weak Rams weak rush defense Sunday at home in Minnesota.

Quarterbacks

Rex Grossman/CHI – Lovie Smith and the Bears need to make sure Grossman is playing well going into their off week of the playoffs, so we think they’ll treat this game as a tune up which will be bad news for the Packers and their young defense.

Matt Hasselbeck/SEA – This will be another tune up game for Hasselbeck and the Seahawks against the Buccaneers in Tampa. They may rest Alexander, but Holmgrin will make sure his passing game is clicking as they enter the playoffs.

Vince Young/TEN – How can you go against this guy? We certainly are not betting against Vince and the Titans. He’s one of the hottest players in the league and with some help you could see the Titans causing major damage in the playoffs.

Receivers

Reggie Brown/PHI – Brown, Garcia and the Eagles are all flying high right now and they still have a great shot at the playoffs with a win and we think they’ll get it in high fashion at home against the Falcons.

Joey Galloway/TB – Galloway is still a burner averaging over 17 yards per catch. We think this game against Seattle will be a blow out and we look for Galloway to get some long balls thrown his way over the course of the day.

Andre Johnson/HOU – Johnson has over 100 catches this year and because of his size and speed, he’s very difficult to cover man-to-man. We like his chances this week against the Browns at home as they bunch up to try and stop the run.

Kicker

John Kasay/CAR – Nothing screams “field goal” quite like the Panthers offense. With a good defensive effort on Sunday, Kasay should be a busy man against the Saints in a game that means very little for each team, but alot for us fantasy geeks.

Always check the latest injury report and be sure to listen next week when we peg your weekly “Picks to Click”. This is Chris Hanson with Big Daddy Football for Titans Radio.

Tiebreakers for BDCS playoffs and BMS seeds
FOXBORO - In case of a tie in the points after the Week 14 regular season, the BDFL will use the following criteria to settle all tiebreakers to seed the teams for the expanded
Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) and for the new Big Mullet Series for teams that failed to make the BDCS. Here's the five steps of the tiebreaker criteria...

1. Best overall records

2. Head-to-head records

3. Head-to-head total margin of vict'ty

4. Best in conference record

5. Flip of the coin

Proposed relocations, team names and logo changes possible next season in 2007
FOXBORO - This year the Wizards of Greystone relocated to Florida to become the Pasco County Wizards. In 2007 several teams could change lo-cals and nicknames. The most likely changes have the Grenades relocating to somewhere in Tennessee. The Helena Fighting Slovaks have moved to Oak Mountain and this could prompt a move and the Bristol Bootleggers are now run from North Canton, Ohio, so they could change team names as well. The Jugtown Juggernauts are looking for a new logo look to capitalize on the Gardendale Rockets/Rice Rocket dynamic. Stay tuned for more information and announcements to come as deals are worked out with the league.

BDFL's first Throwback Week leads to memories

By Bob Bullet
MEDIA VOID - The last year of the USFL, 1985, my senior year at Alabama, we were in a pretty good betting groove. (It wasn't until the next year that Giddy had his knees threatened to be "shotgunned.") We pooled our money for a Thursday night ESPN game between the Rick "Numbers" Neuheisel-led San Antonio Gunslingers and the Denver Gold. We had the Gunslingers +16. Denver led -- it seemed the whole game -- 16-0. (A push!) Then with the clock ticking down and hope springing eternal... the Gold lined up deep in their own territory to punt. "Concede the safety," we cheered. Denver's punter took the snap and stepped out of the end zone. We win, right? Wrong. San Antonio had jumped offsides. Do over. This time the Denver coach (thru lipreading) says "kick it." So, they line up to punt and the snap goes over the punter's head thru the back of the end zone. Final score 16-2. We cover.

[Jack, Jaimie, Dog... do you remember this...]

2006 All-BDFL Preseason teams as selected by the BDFL media experts

FOXBORO - Last year's BDFL Big Daddy of the Year - Shaun Alexander and LaDainian Tomlinson highlight the 2006 All-BDFL Preseason 1st Team while Tom Brady and Antonio Gates anchor down the league's 2nd team. Terrell Owens was a surprise pick on the 1st Team, but was too tempting for the media experts to pass upon in their annual straw poll. The 3rd team is anchored by BDFL veterans Trent Green and Hines Ward.

The first ever Rolling Rock Pony Draft was a huge success

by Iron Hand

FOXBORO - The first annual BDFL Rolling Rock Pony Draft was a huge success as the BDFL teams will now start the Genuine Draft with a little fuel in the tank. Listed to the left is the first ever annual All-BDFL Pony Team as selected by the BDFL's panel of media experts. These players are predicted to play a vital role in the success of their teams in the upcoming 2006 season.

A few new wrinkles for 2006

Pony Draft, shorter regular season, expanded playoffs and the Wizards to Florida highlight the BDFL's changes for '06 FOXBORO - After much debate and feedback from the league's executive committee during the off season, the BDFL has made a few minor changes to keep the league fresh, fair and more competitive than ever for all teams. One change has already taken place in April and that was the first highly successful BDFL Rolling Rock Pony Draft where a crop of 16 BDFL rookies were selected to compete for the upcoming season. The next biggest change was reducing the regular season to 14 games (2006 BDFL schedule has been released) and extending the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) to three rounds consisting of eight playoff teams beginning in Week 15. All four divisional leaders with winning records will qualify as divisional champions and the next four highest point total teams with at least a 7-7 record will qualify. All playoff teams will be seeded 1-8 based on their point totals after Week 14 and the chase to the BDFL Championship Title will begin. Another change has the Wizards of Greystone moving their franchise to the Tampa Bay market and will be known as the Pasco County Wizards. Pasco County is nationally known for it's vintage wine & cheese parties and lawn croquet matches. Other teams considering franchise shifts include the Bristol Bootleggers to North Canton, Ohio where they could become the Gunslingers and the Green Springs Grenades to Nashville, where they could become the Cool Springs Renegades, or the Nashville Scorchers.

Expanded playoffs win favor in 2006 as eight teams will qualify for the BDFL Bowl Championship Series (BDCS)FOXBORO - After Week 14, the regular season will end and the BDFL’s Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) will begin with a eight team race to the title over the remaining three weeks culminating with the Big Daddy Bowl in Week 17. All four divisional point leaders with winning records would qualify for the playoffs as divisional winners and the next best four teams with winning records (7-7 or better) will qualify as wildcard teams. Teams would be seeded 1-8 based on the most points after Week 14 and would compete in a tournament type format to determine the league's champion. The new structure would allow for all quality teams to compete for the BDFL title regardless of how tough their division may be. The other eight teams would fall into their own little pitiful bowl structure to play for 9th place. Based on the 2005 season after Week 14 the new fangled BDCS playoff system would have looked like below…

TEAM RECORD POINTS HOW THEY QUALIFIED # Seed
Wildcats   (12-2)   394  Yellow Hammer Champs

Wizards (7-7) 388 Green Horn Champs #2 Seed
