Cheetahs win with some perserverance
|

LAKEVIEW PARK - "Perseverance" is
defined as the quality of sticking to a goal or continuing to do
something despite difficulties, setbacks, or discouragement. It is a
strength associated with courage and involves a continued effort toward
a goal with persistence and tenacity, even when things get difficult and
hard. The ability to pick yourself up after a setback and keep going is
quality of true perservance. It is often distinguished from resilience
(the ability to recover from setbacks) and endurance (refusing to give
way amid hardship), as perseverance requires a goal-directed, sustained
effort to move forward. Historical figures like Thomas Edison and
Harland Sanders are often cited as examples of the quality of
perseverance in action. Harland's honorary BDFL is commonly known as the
Kentucky Buckets while Edison's honorary BDFL team is not quite as
popular, but known as the Menlo Park Wizards, nonetheless.
"Perseverance" is also the name given to the semi-autonomous robotic
rover, the size of a small car, that has been exploring Mars since it
landed in the Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021. The University of
Alabama's fight song "Yea! Alabama" was written by student and Crimson
White editor Ethelred "Epp" Sykes in 1926, emerging from a $50
contest sponsored by the campus humor magazine The Rammer-Jammer following
the Crimson Tide's first national football championship in 1925. The
song's lyrics lends itself to perservance with the lines... And if a
man starts to weaken, That’s a shame! For Bama’s pluck and grit have
Writ her name in Crimson flame. Fight on, fight on, fight on men!
In Week 16 of the BDFL's 31st season, the post-seson got underway with
the 2025 Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) and the 2025 Big Mullet
Series (BMS) and some teams showed their perserverance. In the BDCS, the
#1 seeded Cheetahs came from behind to defeat the Bellcows by ten
(45-35). The #7 seeded Juggernauts upset the Freebirds in a defensive
struggle (17-11). The #5 seeded Dogs finally put the Legend of Shades
Creek out of his 2025 misery by seven points (40-33). The Wildcats
clawed the Grenadiers in the face (35-23). In the BMS, the Armadillos
came from behind to sink the Bandits for the second straight week
(33-25). The Vulcans upset the PowerSleds in a close one (29-24). The
Bullerino ousted the Gambino (26-16) and Da Blitz carpet bombed the
Mayors (13-9). Now onto the semi-finals in the BDCS and the BMS in Week
17 of the BDFL starting on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas from the BDFL!

The 2025 BMS

PERDIDO
KEY - The BDFL's Big Mullet Series (BMS) doesn't get too much
press during the post-season because it is basically a loser's
bracket. The proverbial "King of the Dip$#!&s" tournament. It's
played for 9th place overall in the league's final standings,
but the BMS title does come with a nice grand prize - The first
pick in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft in April of the incoming
rookies to the NFL/BDFL. By the way, the first three teams to
draft in last year's 2025 BDFL Pony Draft, all make the Big
Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) this season, so there is still
some incentives to play well in the BMS. The heavy favorite to
win this year's BMS are the Duncanville Armadillos. The Texas
Armada barely missed the 2025 BDCS due to the notorius Bullet
Rule, but the Armos are loaded with championship caliber talent
and is the team to beat in the BDFL's annual consolation
contest. However, all eight teams have a shot at winning the
BMS. The BDFL's annual Big Mullet Bowl does have its share of
tradition and is played during the BDFL's annual Bowl
Championship Week (Week 18) down at the Flora-Bama where Bent
Oak Farm, out of Magnolia Springs, Alabama, lays down their
patented "Roll & Play" turf on the beach for the final game of
the BMS. Bleachers are brought in from nearby Orange Beach High
School and Gulf Shores High School to bring the capacity of the
Big Mullet Bowl game to 40,000 similar to the crowd at the
legendary Kenny Chesney free beach concert at the Flora-Bama
on August 16, 2014 called the "Flora-Bama-Jama". When their team
is playing in the BMS, the BDFL's Gulf Coast Gamblers based in
nearby Biloxi, MS, help serve as the league's host of the Big
Mullet Bowl with weekly festivities in the region leading up to
the big game on the beach. The late great Jimmy Buffett who grew
up in neighboring Fairhope and Mobile and once wrote a song
about the Flora-Bama entitled "Bama Breeze" is the icon figure
of the BDFL's Big Mullet Series. Jimmy Buffett's honorary BDFL
team is known as the Margaritaville Parrots. Below are the teams
and seeds for the 2025 BMS based on the end of the BDFL's
regular season ending in Week 15.
