TITLETOWN
- "Luv Ya Blue" refers to the iconic late-1970s (roughly 1978–1980) era
of the Houston Oilers NFL team, characterized by immense fan enthusiasm,
Columbia blue pom-poms, and a, "never-say-die" spirit under coach Bum
Phillips and running back Earl Campbell. The slogan captured the city's
heart as the underdog Oilers reached back-to-back AFC Championships.
Coached by the charismatic Bum Phillips and led on the field by RB-Earl
Campbell and QB-Dan Pastorini, the team brought unprecedented excitement
to Houston and the Astrodome. The era featured packed, loud crowds at
the Astrodome and massive homecoming rallies, with up to 300,000 fans
celebrating the team despite losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the
1978 and 1979 AFC Championship games. The movement was marked by the
"Luv Ya Blue" theme song (originally recorded by player Carl Mauck) and
a "college-game-like" atmosphere in a professional setting. The era is
remembered as a special time in Houston culture, often highlighted in
documentaries like "Luv Ya, Bum!". In the 2026 BDFL Pony Draft, the
Duncanville Armadillos wrote their own Texas version of "Love Ya Blue"
by taking Notre Dame RB-Jeremiyah Love with the first overall pick and
projecting him to play for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL. The North
Birmingham Vulcans claimed they were "sabotaged" in this year's draft
for the second season in a row, but these claims were unsubstantiated.
As a matter of fact, it was one of the smoothest drafts in the history
of the BDFL. Love and the other 15 "Pony Picks" will be on opening day
BDFL rosters in September when the regular season starts. Fifteen of the
16 ponies were well documented over the last seven months with the
BDFL's annual "Pony Draft Watch List". The lone exception was RB-Mike
Washington from Arkansas who slipped through the crack and was drafted
by the Magic City Mayors with the 5th overall pick. It was a huge draft
for receivers with nine of the 16 picks being pass catchers. Two
quarterbacks, four runningbacks and one kicker rounded out the 2026 Pony
Draft.

2026 BDFL Pony Draft Results
|
 |
#1
RB-Jeremiyah Love
ND
In a bit of a surprise, the Texas
Armada took Love with the first pick of the 2026 BDFL Pony Draft
passing over the proverbial Mendoza Line. Then they picked him to
go to the NFL's Titans.
|
 |
 |
#2
QB-Fernando Mendoza IU
Da Blitz
earned the #2 overall pick on the 2026 BDFL Pony Draft with a
strong showing in the 2025 Big Mullet Series (BMS) and used it
to take Mendoza, then predicted he'd go to Vegas.
|
 |
 |
#3
WR-Germie Bernard UA
The Bullets reached taking Bama's Bernard
in a predictible "homer" pick they are infamous for in the
BDFL's annual Pony Draft. Going to the Bears isn't a bad guess
for his NFL destination.
|
 |
 |
#4
RB-Jadarian
Price ND
I'm surprised the Irish didn't win the
National Championship with the "Two Horsemen" in the backfield
last season. The Vulcs sabotaged the 2026 BDFL Pony Draft with false
accusations.
|
 |
 |
#5
RB-Mike Washington ARK
The
Mayors earned a notch up the Pony pecking order with a big March
Madness contest win and were the first to go off the grid taking
the former Hog with the fifth overall pick. Jags picked next.
|
 |
 |
#6
RB-Jonah
Coleman UW
The PowerSleds like to be
unconventional in the Pony Draft. However, they value running
backs and took the dependale Jonah Coleman and projected him to
the NFL's Vikings.
|
 |
 |
#7
WR-Carnell
Tate OSU
The Gamblers usually draft wildcards
from Mississippi in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft. However, this
year they couldn't pass up the next gifted Buckeye receiver and
project him to Miami.
|
 |
 |
#8 WR-Makai
Lemon USC
In the eighth hole, the Bandits took
the talented Makai Lemon out of USC. Many have heralded him as
the best of this 2026 wide receiver class. The Bandits also
predicted he'd be a Brown.
|
 |
|

|
#9
TE-Kenyon Sadiq UO
Sadiq is the best tight end in this
coming NFL Draft according to the media experts. We think Eli
Stowers may be better. The Freebirds drafted another bird and
have him landing in KC.
|

|
|

|
#10
WR-Jordyn
Tyson ASU
The
Sloth Monsters are savvy when it comes to the BDFL's Pony Draft
and they tend to focus on talent, production and projections. So
it was no surprise when they picked Jordyn Tyson.
|

|
|

|
#11
WR-Omar Cooper IU
Omar
Cooper is a deadly receiver. He kills teams literally, just ask
Penn State, Ohio State, Iowa, Alabama, etc. Even when he is
covered up, he catches the ball. Great pick-up by the Bellcows.
|

|
|

|
#12
QB-Ty Simpson UA
Simpson was slipping in the 2026 BDFL
Pony Draft and the Grenadiers showed him some mercy. Now they
are hoping he goes to the Jets and beats out an aging Geno
Smith.
|

|
|

|
#13
WR-Denzel
Boston UW
Dave
Loggins' "Please Come to Boston" is what the Wildcats were
singing when they made this pick. Boston is big and physical and
should be a terror in the red zone like Mike Evans.
|

|
|

|
#14
WR-KC Concepcion A&M
Concepcion may be the most explosive player in the entire 2026
NFL Draft and the 'Nauts got him in the #14 draft slot of the
2026 BDFL Pony Draft. He is what Bryce Young needs in Carolina.
|

|
|

|
#15
PK-Tate Sandell OU
Let's face it, kickers are weird. However, kickers are also more valued than ever
in the BDFL. With a stroke of genius, the defending champs got
the top kicker in the draft and project him to ATL.
|

|
|

|
#16 WR-Zachariah Branch UGA
Branch never reached his potential
under Mike Bobo at Georgia. He could be a nightmare for defenses
in the NFL. The Cheetahs know what they are doing in the BDFL,
so beware.

PLACE -
When the NFL Draft rolls around, you always hear about potential draft
sleepers and super sleepers in the draft that may be surprises in the
fall once the season begins. These our prospects who may have been
overlooked for some reason, but are much better than advertised. The
BDFL has always loved these type players over the years (Pacheco, Purdy,
Nacua, Dell, LaPorta, Vidal, Reichard, Irving, etc.), those who get
ignorded by the media experts, don't get picked in the league's annual
Pony Draft, but somehow find a way onto a BDFL roster in their rookie
season and contribute to their team. The BDFL doesn't like to use the
sleeper and super sleeper terminology to define this group of players,
so we refer to them as the BDFL's "Darkhorses". This dovetails well with
the league's overall Pony Draft concept. With 16 studs above who went in
the 2026 BDFL Pony Draft, the league has identified 33 more of these
proverbial "darkhorses" who we think could eventually make their way
onto a BDFL roster in the fall. Here's a look at the 2026 BDFL Pony
Draft Darkhorses...
