HOOVER,
AL - "Doomsday" is defined as the end of the world, or a day of ultimate
destruction and judgment. It can refer to the final day of judgment in
Christianity, a catastrophic future event, or any day of reckoning and
disaster. Synonyms include "day of judgment," "apocalypse," "end of the
world," and "day of reckoning". End of the world is the final day when
the world is destroyed. Day of judgment in a religious context, it is
the final day when individuals are judged by God for their actions in
life. A dreaded, or disastrous, future event is a predicted event that
will cause widespread destruction, such as a "doomsday scenario" from
climate change, or war. Day of reckoning is a day when a long-feared,
disastrous event finally occurs. In football, the BDFL leans towards the
"day of reckoning" meaning when referring to "doomsday". The "Doomsday
Defense" refers to the legendary defense of the Dallas Cowboys
particularly during the 1970s. It is known for being a dominant unit
that helped the Cowboys win two Super Bowls and was recognized over two
generations with the first lasting from 1966-1974. The first generation is
considered one of the greatest defenses in NFL history, anchored by Hall of
Famers and stars like Bob Lilly, Lee Roy Jordan and Mel Renfro. The
second generation included players like Randy White and Ed "Too Tall"
Jones. The "Legion of Doom" most commonly refers to the super-villain
team in DC Comics, led by Lex Luthor, who frequently opposes the Justice
League. It can also refer to the professional wrestling tag team known
as the Road Warriors, a hacker group, or a heavy metal band. In Week 11 of the
BDFL's 31st season, it was doomsday for multiple teams as their hopes
for a championship title grew evr more fainter. The Grenadiers destroyed the
Sloth Monsters 56-30 at the Hoover Met to move into third place overall
in the BDFL.

Separating
contenders from pretenders
|

TITLETOWN
- About this time of the season, as is the case in most all
previous 30 BDFL seasons, you have the inevitable separation of
the contenders from the pretenders. There may be a couple of
teams on the bubble, but for the most part your team will either contend for
the BDFL Championship Title, or your team's travel agent will be looking for a nice place in Perdido Key for the BDFL's
post-season. This season is no different.
After 11 weeks of BDFL action, the league's media experts think they
have enough empirical evidence to piece together a picture of the 2025
Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) field of eight teams. In the BDFL's
patented championship post-season, each division winner gets an automatic bid
and these four teams are projected to be the Freebirds (GHD), Cheetahs
(GBD), Wildcats (YHD) and Gamblers (RND). The league also has
four "wildcard" slots available for the next best four teams in the BDFL and
these are projected to come from the following candidates: Dogs, Blitz,
PowerSleds, Grenadiers, Armadillos and Sloth Monsters. There is still a lot of football to be played
in the BDFL and it will be
interesting to see how well these predictions pan out over the next four weeks of
the league's regular season which ends in Week 15. The BDCS playoffs begin in Week
16 and runs through Week 18 to determine the BDFL Title Champions.
If the regular season ended after Week 11 action, this would be
your 2025 BDCS field based on points alone...
