WAXAHATCHIE,
TX - According to Mr. Webster, a "shootout", also called a firefight,
gunfight, or gun battle, is a confrontation in which parties armed with
firearms exchange gunfire. The term can be used to describe any such
fight, though it is typically used in a non-military context, or to
describe combat situations primarily using firearms (generally excluding
crew-served weapons, combat vehicles, armed aircraft, or explosives).
Shootouts often pit law enforcement against criminals, though they can
also involve parties outside of law enforcement, such as rival gangs,
militias, or individuals. Military combat situations are rarely titled
"shootouts", and are almost always considered battles, engagements,
skirmishes, exchanges, or firefights. Shootouts are often depicted in
action films, Westerns, video games and high-scoring BDFL football
games. In Week 10 of the BDFL's 31st season, this was a John Wayne vs.
Clint Eastwood type classic Western shoot 'em up between the Brookside
Dogs and the Duncanville Armadillos. This BDFL heavyweight matchup was
so big, it had to be moved south to nearby Waxahatchie (population
41,140) to handle the overflowing crowd. The two teams exchanged gunfire
all weekend long until the Texas Armada finally delivered the deadly
blow with some last second help from Sam Houston's Texans defense to put
the mangy mutts out of their misery, 53-44. By the way, John Wayne's
honorary BDFL team is known as the Southern California Dukes and are
based in Hollywood, California, while Clint Eastwood's honorary BDFL
team goes by the High Plains Drifters and are based out of Carmel,
California.

The BDFL saw a flurry of
trades last week
|
|
RIDGWAY,
CO - Leading up to Week 10
action, the BDFL witnessed a flurry of trades involving a total
four teams, nine players with one player sent
packing twice. It was the most trade action the league has
experienced in quite a while. The Commissioner of the BDFL, Iron
Hand, approved all the trades as being "fair and equitable" and
viewed the trade action as a positive since all the teams
involved were just trying to get better for a stretch run
towards a BDFL Championship Title. It all started pretty
innocently on Wednesday with the Bellcows trading RB-Dowdle/CAR
to the Mayors for RB-Walker/SEA. Then the day got a little more
crazy. The Mayors shipped QB-McCarthy/MIN and RB-Hubbard/CAR to
the Bullets for QB-Jones/IND and RB-Kamara/NO. Not to be left
out, the Vulcans got in on the action later in the day by
trading RB-Benson/ARI and QB-Flacco/CIN to the Mayors for
QB-Daniels/WAS and RB-Kamara/NO. After all the roster shuffling
last week, the Commissioner has set Week 12 as the BDFL's trade
deadline. Trades will be allowed up to the Weekly Starters
deadline for Week 12 on Thursday, November 20th at 6:30pm CT,
but no trades will be allowed after the Week 12 games have
begun. Sorry, somebody had to draw a line in the sand. NOTE:
Every team involved in this trade flurry lost in Week 10 except
for the Vulcans and they should have lost.
