BROOKSIDE,
AL - Boom shakalaka is an exclamation that can express dominance,
triumph, excitement, joy and sometimes all four at the same time. Boom
shakalaka has its roots in the 1969 song “I Want to Take You Higher” by
Sly & The Family Stone. "Higher" made the setlist for the band's
performance at Woodstock alongside "Dance to the Music" and "Music
Lover". Sly Stone used the song during a memorable interlude, during
which he had the whole Woodstock crowd repeating the song's frantic cry
of "higher!" at 3am. In the 1981 military comedy film Stripes, actor
Bill Murray trained his soldiers in song and dance rather than
traditional military drill calls. The soldiers danced while
chanting "boom shakalaka" in a reference to Sly Stone's tune. Boom
shakalaka is used mostly nowadays for moments of domination and vict'ry. In Week 11 of the BDFL,
the Legion of Doom lowered the boom on the Car Chasers in an 80-28
blowout at Brookside Ballpark along the banks of Five Mile Creek. NOTE: 80
points is believed to be a new all-time BDFL high for a single game
point total. It may never be broken.

BDFL
scoring is to mimic real pro football
|
|
TITLETOWN - With
the addition of a few new teams over the last decade, it may be
time for a history lesson in BDFL scoring. The BDFL was
established in 1995 with the goal to be as close to real
football as possible in the way games are scored. We have never
been sucked into points per reception (PPR) and points for
yardage and other BS forms of scoring that leads to unrealistic
player point totals and ridiculous game scores.. Nothing upsets
The Commissioner of the BDFL (Iron Hand) more than BS stat-type
scoring in fantasy football. In real football a touchdown is
worth six (6) points, the same as in the BDFL. A field goal is worth
three (3) points in real football, the same in the BDFL. A safety is
worth two (2) points in real football, the same in the BDFL. The
same can be said for two-point conversions (2) and extra points
(1). The BDFL mimics real scoring in pro football, as much as
possible. Since the league's conception, passing touchdowns have
been split equally for the quarterback and the receiver (3+3=6) with
the mindset that both players contributed to the six (6) point
touchdown. The BDFL's only scoring caveat is the reward of
"double the points" for plays over 50 yards. This was done to
reward big scoring plays and for the fun of it all. As a result
of this disciplined scoring system, the BDFL has had realistic
game scores for over 25 years and counting. To prove how well
the BDFL has done with managing the league's scoring system,
consider that in the NFL last season (2020) the average team
scoring was 24.8 points per team per game which finished ahead of the
league's all-time record of 23.6 points per team per game set in 1948.
This season (2021) the NFL is averging 23.2 points per team per
game. Conversely, in the
BDFL last season (2020) the average team scoring was 25.7 points
per game and this season (2021) the average team scoring is up
to 26.2
points per game. The BDFL's slight scoring increase over the NFL
can be traced to the league's scoring reward policy for "double
the points" for plays over 50 yards. We go through this math exercise to prove a point.
The BDFL has nailed how scoring should be tabulated in fantasy
football. The rest of the fantasy football world is living on
Fantasy Island in La La Land, far, far away from pro football
reality.
Thank you for helping keep the BDFL as the leader in the industry.
NOTE: The 80 points scored by the Grenadiers in Week 11 was a
BDFL scoring annomaly.
