IRON HAND - THE COMMISSIONER OF THE BDFL

Projecting the Pony Draft

With another class of studs in the stable, Iron forecasts where the best fantasy rookies will end up in 2014

TITLETOWN - In the BDFL, we select a round of sixteen rookies even before they know their NFL destination. It's called the Pony Draft after Rolling Rock's 7 oz. ponies sold only by the case at the Rathskeller, better know as "The Skeller" in State College, PA. Recommended in 2006 by the BDFL's own Bullet Hand, this will be the BDFL's 9th Pony Draft. It will take place in late May after the combine, but always before the NFL's draft, so projecting where a rookie will go and how he'll be used by his new team is valuable. The new twist this season is all Pony Draft selections will not be able to be dropped at the new Progressive Priority Draft (PPD) in August and all must appear on BDFL opening day rosters. To be fair, each of the 32 NFL teams gets a strong fantasy player recommendation from Iron Hand.

USC's Lee will be the top receiver on most Pony Draft war room walls

1

WR - Marqise Lee USC – The Jets can always use some offense and Lee will be the gamebreaker needed to compliment last year's #1 pick in Geno Smith.

2

QB - Teddy Bridgewater UL – Many teams need a quarterback that can step in and start, but none more than the Jags and Bridgewater will be a big upgrade.

QB - Blake Bortles UCF – Bortles was late arriving to this class, but could be the most ready to start. The Raiders will make him their latest QB of the future.

4

WR - Sammy Watkins CLM – Some teams just value first-class receivers more than others and Watkins will be hard for the Eagles to pass up in the 1st round.

QB - Johnny Manziel A&M – There are only a few teams crazy enough to draft Manziel and give him the keys to the franchise and the Browns are one.

6

WR - Mike Evans A&M – The Lions have longed for a legitimate threat to help free Megatron and will get their wish as Evans falls in their lap in the first round.

RB - Tre Mason AUB – DeMarco Murray will be done way before his time unless he gets some help in the Cowboys backfield and Mason will be another star in Dallas.

8

RB - Andre Williams BC Williams is a load that can move the pile, or run around it. The type back the Giants could use as a long-term solution to their RB woes.

9

Jarvis Landry - North Texas v LSU

WR - Jarvis Landry LSU – Landry will be a good receiver in the NFL, but his most value may come as a kick returner and the Redskins could use him in both roles.

RB - Lache Seastrunk BAY – Seastrunk is the most explosive running back in the 2014 draft and the Texans need a lot more depth in their depleted backfield.

RB - Bishop Sankey WAS – Sankey could be stanky with the right team. We have him staying in Seattle to be the back of the future with the homestanding Hawks.

12

WR - Kelvin Benjamin FSU – Benjamin is a beast. Lined up opposite of Keenan Allen would be a dream come true for Rivers and the Chargers' "Air McCoy" offense.

QB - Derek Carr FRECarr could be the second quarterback drafted in 2014 and the Cardinals will take him as the heir apparent to Palmer in the near future.

14

RB - Ka'Deem Carey ARI – Carey is a bad boy and will scare some teams off, but not the Dirty Birds who desperately need a full-time, healthy running back.

WR - Jordan Matthews VAN – The Titans need more weapons on offense, so they will look down Broadway to West End to pick up the versatile "Two-Star" Matthews.

QB - AJ McCarron ALA – He will be a project, but the Vikings are desperate for a QB they can build around and AJ will look good handing off to AP in the meantime.

TE - Eric Ebron UNC Ebron is a true mismatch. His size, strength and aggression make him an effective blocker at the point of attack. Idea for the Packers scheme.

TE - Jace Amaro TTU The Ravens have been decimated at tight end and will need more depth immediately and a long-term TE solution, so Amaro makes sense.

QB - Jimmy Garoppolo EIU – Not exactly a household name for now, Garoppolo will be one come draft day. The Rams draft him as insurance to Sam Bradford.
WR - Allen Robinson PSU – Excellent combination of height, explosive leaping ability, great hand-to-eye coordination and rare body control. Perfect for the Niners.

WR - Davante Adams FRE  – Adams was instant offense for the Bulldogs, but will take some time to adjust to the pro game. A perfect project for the WR needy Pats.

WR - Odell Beckham LSU – The receiving corps in the Big Easy are getting old and Sean Payton could use the talented Tiger from up the road in Baton Rouge.
RB - Jeremy Hill LSU – The Dolphins are not crazy about Thomas, or Miller, so the bruising Hill could be a welcomed addition to an improving Fins offense.
WR - Brandin Cooks OST – Steve Smith is getting long in the tooth and the Panthers need more weapons for Cam Newton, so a quality WR will be a priority.
RB - Carlos Hyde OSU – Hyde is a load and could be the the top rusher in the draft and the Bears will need some fresh legs behind Forte and Bush.
RB - Charles Sims WVA – Most Mountaineers have character issues and Sims may be no different, but the Bucs desperately need more depth at RB regardless.
TE - Austin Seferian-Jenkins WAS ASJ is ready now to be a starter in the NFL. Look for a team like the Chiefs who need an instant starter to pick the Husky end.
QB - Brett Smith WYO - Big Ben can't play forever and Charlie Batch is in the old folks home, so the Steelers invest in a back-up with a eye to the future.
WR - Paul Richardson CU  – With Welker's concussion problems, the Broncs will be looking for a sure-handed guy to learn from the best and the local Buff will do.
QB - Tajh Boyd CLM – Boyd is polished with a lot of experience and the Bengals are not 100% sold on Andy Dalton. Tajh stays in orange in Cincinnati.
WR - Donte Moncrief UM – Moncrief will be drafted as the heir apparent to Reggie Wayne in Indy and give Andrew Luck another weapon to throw to in the meantime.
QB - Zach Mettenberger LSU – EJ Manuel is injury prone and the Bills need somebody better than Thaddeus Lewis to back him up over the long-haul.
