The BDFL Playoff Rule Book

FOXBORO - With the season over half way finished, the Commissioner will take this time to address the media to go over the playoff rules of the BDFL.

  1. Teams must have at least a 7-7 win/loss record to qualify for playoff consideration. This is commonly referred to as the Bullet Rule for obvious reasons stemming from the 1997 tainted title season.

  2. Teams must win their division outright to automatically be assured of a playoff birth, which means at least a 7-7 win/loss record and have the most points in their division. There will be no automatic reward for a team that does not meet both of this criteria. Example: If the team in first place after 14 weeks is 6-8 and has 400 points and a team is 7-7 with 399 points then neither team is the outright clear division winner and could be over passed by another wildcard team in the league with a better record and more points.

  3. If there is no outright clear winner of the division, the BDFL reserves the right to award a playoff position to another team regardless of their division based on their win-loss record and total point total. The BDFL will not reward mediocrity by default.

  4. If there is a playoff divisional dilemma of any kind, the BDFL reserves the right to change the schedule in Week 14 to help resolve any playoff divisional dilemmas. See Week 14 2006 for the president.

  5. Playoff teams will be seated 1-8 based on their total point total after Week 14.

The BDFL's Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) is about rewarding the league's best teams with a chance to compete in the Big Daddy Bowl for the league's championship.

Steiger is the oldest brewery and beer in Slovakia dating back to 1473. Yes 1473. Steiger means "miners foreman" which represents the Slovaks coal and copper mining heritage. The brewery is still independent which is important to the BDFL. The favorite brand seems to be Steiger Hell 12%, but we'll have to have Mukes test all brands to come up with the BDFL's official house brand. For more information, stay tuned to thebdfl.com.

Throwback Week

BDFL's annual tribute to the history of professional football is coming in Week 8

FOXBORO - The Benton Bullets will represent the AFL's 1962 New York Titans in Week 8 as part of the BDFL's annual Throwback Week. Did you know Don Maynard from Texas Western was the first New York Titan? These and other neat facts are just part of the BDFL's look back and special tribute at the great heritage of pro football. Teams will pick their favorite pro football teams (AFL & NFL teams only this year) from the past to represent. Throwback helmets, uniforms, trivia, stats, facts and past players will highlight the week's games. To see this year's Throwback team selections click here.

The DAs and RICKA Rulers

FOXBORO - This is where the DAs of the BDFL's Genuine Draft can drop one player in favor of an undrafted player. The drafted then goes back into the player pool and the player they select is now on their roster. Once a player is added during the DA process he can't be dropped until the RICKA Rule kicks in a week prior to the first NFL action and continues until Week 2 games start. This is a first come first serve basis deal to keep teams from whining too much before the season even starts about their team. All roster moves much come through the Commissioner's office for approval.

New Miller Genuine Draft Rules for 2008

FOXBORO - Due to a slacking attendance, a lack of preparation and cellphone use by a few teams, the BDFL has been forced to institute the following rules for the 2008 BDFL Genuine Draft...

1. If you (owner/GM) are not in attendance at the draft, you will not be eligible for a draft order number and will be pushed to the end of the first round with the other non-attendees. This rule is  commonly referred to as the "Snooze You Lose Rule".

2. If you do not furnish a simple list (easy enough for a fourth grader to use to draft your team) at least one day prior to the draft date, you will either be dropped from the league and replaced with someone who cares more, or you will have to pick a team after the draft has been completed. This rule is commonly referred to as the "Boot Scoot Boogie Rule".

3. No cellphones, or similar electronic devices, will be allowed to be used during the draft, or will any team be allowed to phone in their picks. This rule is commonly referred to as the "Slovak Rule".

4. The Commissioner has the power to act in the best interest of the league before, during, and after the draft to make it as enjoyable for those who took the time and effort to attend the draft and participate at the high expectations level. This rule is commonly referred to as the "Iron Rule".

2007 Schedule released

FOXBORO - The BDFL is pleased to announce that the 2007 BDFL Schedule has been released. Early highlights have the Grenades visiting Druid City in Week 1 and a rematch of last year's Big Daddy Bowl when the defending champions - Wizards host the Woosiers in Week 2. It's a 14 game regular season with a much more balanced schedule with every team playing every other team in the league except one. Divisional match-ups will be more important because you'll only get one shot at your most hated rivals, but the balanced schedule gives every team the same chance to be successful in their own division. Then we'll have three weeks of playoffs culminating with The Big Daddy Bowl for all the marbles to crown the 2007 BDFL Champions!
