DUNCANVILLE,
TX - "Blitz" is short for blitzkrieg which in German means "lightning
war". The "Blitzkrieg Raid" refers to the intense aerial bombing
campaign carried out by Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe against the United
Kingdom during World War II between September 7, 1940 and May 11, 1941
which lasted eight months and ten days. "The Raid" was triggered after
the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombed Berlin, leading Hitler to shift
strategy from targeting military airfields to terror-bombing the general
population and industrial centers. London alone was bombed for 57
consecutive nights with over 70 major raids in total. Other targeted
sites included major industrial, port, and manufacturing hubs including
Coventry, Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Plymouth and Hull. Over 40,000
British civilians were killed and more than 10,000 wounded, but thanks
to Churchill, the British morale and war production remained unbroken.
The Stones sang about it their controversial hit "Sympathy For The
Devil" from their Beggars Banquet LP album in 1968 with “I rode
a tank, held a general's rank when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies
stank". Coincidently, the surname "Lutz" originates as a short form of
the German name Ludwig, which itself comes from Old High German
elements: hlut meaning "famous" and wig meaning "war"
or "battle," giving the meaning "famous warrior", or "renowned in
battle". The name also has historical ties to the Latin name Ludovicus,
which spread through Germanic regions during the early medieval days. In
some contexts, Lutz can also be linked to Ludger, or Lucius, though
Ludwig is the primary source. Lutz has been regularly used in Germany
since the 1930s, peaking in popularity during the 1960s when it ranked
among the top 50 male names. It has also appeared sporadically in
Austria and Switzerland, but is rarely used in Nordic countries like
Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Historically, it was common in upper and
lower German and regions, with the short form stabilizing in written
records by the 16th century. In Week 7 of the BDFL’s 32nd season, the
Druid City Blitz squadron flew west from T-Town to Waxahachie, Texas on
a mission to carpet bomb the proverbial Superconducting Super Collider
(SSC) nicknamed “Desertron”. Little did da Blitz know that the
4.4-billion-dollar project was abandoned in 1993. Nonetheless, da Blitz
loaded for bear, turned to nearly by Duncanville and dropped the big one
(39-20) on the Armadillos instead with no sympathy.

The
BDFL's tiebreaker criteria for overtime
|
|
AUDUBON
PLACE - During the legendary 1981 AFC Divisional playoff game
known as the "Epic in Miami", the San Diego Chargers tight end
Kellen Winslow delivered an iconic performance, blocking a
potential game-winning field goal at the end of regulation to
force "sudden death" overtime. The San Diego Chargers went on to
defeat the Miami Dolphins 41–38 in overtime at the Orange Bowl.
Known for extreme heat, wild momentum swings, and 79 combined
points, it is remembered as one of the greatest games in NFL
history. This season, the BDFL has already had two contests
decided by the league's proverbial "sudden death" tiebreaker
criteria. As parity has come to the BDFL in recent years, more
games could end up tied after regulation. For 25 years, the BDFL
settled tie games with the longest scoring play and it served
the league well until we decided to do something better to
decide the winning team in a tied contest and award the overtime
vict'ry (otv). So in 2021, the BDFL instituted a new,
unprecedented tiebreaker criteria to determine which team should
get the overtime vic'try in the event of a tied game. A new
twist was added in 2025 with
the elimination of the "total roster points" tiebreaker criteria
and now ending the tiebreaker criteria with an electronic
version of "rock, paper, scissors" to determine the tie game's
outcome, if necessary. This season (2026), the league added the
"Correct Starters entry" with the Aladdin Scoring System (@$$)
at #5 to encourage teams to get this right each week since it
could eventually cost you a vict'ry. In order to declare
the winner in a tied contest, the BDFL will go down this list of
the six tiebreakers below, in order, until a winner is
determined...
1. Most roster spots to score for
the game (5 > 4)
2. Most TDs scored
3. Longest TD scored
4. Longest scoring play
5. Correct Starters entry
6. Electronic rock, paper, scissors
