WEEK 5

Discombobulated

Packers rookie TE Tucker Kraft emerges as a bright spot in the offense

Tucker Kraft and the Bullets upset the previously undefeated Vulcans in Week 5 of the BDFL

The Bullets embarrass the Vulcans, 36-16

NORWOOD, AL - According to Mr. Webster "discombobulated" is an adjective characterized as being dazed, confused, and in disorder. "Discombobulate" was one in a series of words invented in the early to mid-1800s as part of a fad popular among educated high-society types who made up faux words by compiling Latin prefixes, suffixes, roots and other non-Latin components into silly-sounding combinations. "Discombobulate" itself is used to mean confused, or disoriented now, but originally meant embarrassed, upset, or generally thrown off mentally. If you knock off the suffixes and prefixes you end up with a nonsensible, irrelevant root word "bobule", but that’s not terribly important because the sound of the word was meant to be illustrative of its meaning, and you get the "not with it mentally" part from the dis and com. A good modern day use of the word would be: "Alabama's defense was a discombobulated mess of inadequate preparation and failing execution that led to an overall poor performance in last Saturday's embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt". In Week 5 of the 30th season of the BDFL, it was not a good week for the previously unbeaten teams as they both looked discombobulated. The previously undefeated Freebirds fell prey to the Sloth Monsters, while the previously undefeated Vulcans got embarrassed by the Bullets. In other discombobulated performances in Week 5 of the BDFL season, the Grenadiers surrendered to the Bandits, the Dogs rolled over for the Cheetahs and the PowerSleds got railroaded by the Juggernauts.

THE BDFL NEWS

Overtime Vict'ry

Legendary college football coach Paul W. "Bear" Bryant equated a tie game to "kissing your sister"

The BDFL's patented tie-breaker criteria

TITLETOWN - For the fourth year in a row, the BDFL will stick to the new, established tiebreaker criteria to determine the winning team in the case of a tied contest. The longest scoring play had served the BDFL well for 26 seasons in breaking a tied game, but this may not have been the best way to determine the winner in these tied games. Therefore, the BDFL instituted a new, unprecedented tiebreaker criteria in 2021 to determine which team should get the vic'try in the event of a tied game. An overtime vict'ry in the BDFL is marked as an "otv" in most references.

In order to declare the winner in a tied contest, the BDFL will go down this list of the six tiebreakers below, in order, until a winner is determined...

1. Most roster spots to score for the game (5 > 4)

2. Most TDs scored

3. Longest TD scored

4. Longest scoring play

5. Most total roster points for the week

6. Flip of a coin

Bookmark this page and save for future reference, so when you team gets beat in overtime (OT), you'll know why and you won't have to email The Commissioner of the BDFL, Iron Hand, to find out why.
