GARDENDALE,
AL - "Stranglehold" is a song by American rock musician Ted
Nugent, the first track from his self-titled debut 1975 album.
The vocals are actually performed by Derek St. Holmes. However,
the "Sometimes you wanna get higher" verse is sung by Nugent.
Nugent admits that the song was co-written by Rob Grange, who
received no share. "Stranglehold" is a guitar-driven track, over
eight minutes long, and set the stage for Nugent's career. The
guitar solo was recorded in a single take. "I used delays to
create this really wild guitar duet with Ted," said producer Tom
Werman. "It was like two guys were playing. I sent it off to Ted
for his approval. He called me up and said, "I love what you did
with 'Stranglehold', but don't ever do that again without asking
me". "Stranglehold" is ranked as the 31st greatest guitar solo
of all-time by Guitar World. With its classic intro,
"Stranglehold" became an entrance theme to the National Hockey
League's (NHL) Chicago Blackhawks. It was also the entrance
theme used by Kevin Von Erich in his professional wrestling
career. During his tenure with the San Diego Padres relief
pitcher Huston Street used the song as his entrance music.
Relief pitcher Will Smith also used the song as his entrance
music when he pitched for the Atlanta Braves. In Week 2 of the
30th season of the BDFL, the Western Hills Wildcats put a
stranglehold on the jugular of the Jugtown Juggernauts (37-22)
in a Yellow Hammer Division showdown on Bruce Field at Driver
Stadium (BFDS). By the way, teams from the West don't usually
fare very well at BFDS. Other winners in Week 2 of the BDFL
included the PowerSleds, Bellcows, Gamblers, Bandits, Mayors,
Freebirds and Vulcans in no particular order.

TITLETOWN
-
The BDFL's patented WORM Rule will be back for a fourth season with a
slight twist. WORM is
an acronym for Weekly One Roster Move. It means each team in the BDFL is
free to drop and add one player per week during the season from Week 4
to Week 12. The twist this season is starting the WORM transactions in
Week 4 with the mindset being, you got to pay a little for bad luck and
bad draft decisions to be fair to the rest of the league. The Magic City Mayors were the most active team to utilize the WORM Rule
last season making 10 roster upgrades out of the 12 weeks allowed.
The Mayors are now the poster child for the WORM Rule. Last season
(2023) there was a ton of value found
in the ol' proverbial "Worm Hole" with players like Puka Nacua, Jayden
Reed, Sam LaPorta, Tank Dell, Kyren Williams, Nico Collins, Josh Dobbs,
James Conner, Zack Moss and others all coming into the league during the regular
season to help contribute to BDFL rosters via the WORM Rule. Look for even
more WORM value this season when teams need an in-season roster boost.
The weekly process is quite simple, just email Iron Hand prior to the weekly starter deadline to make your WORM
move. Typically, the weekly WORM Hole window is open each week from
Monday at midnight until the starters are due on Thursday. The
Mayors, Grenadiers and Bandits are already sitting in the WORM Hole portal for the first
Week 4 WORMs. Your team can join the portal now as well, but these
players will not be roster eligible until Week 4 games.
