CREEK - Dog Day Afternoon is a 1975 American
biographical crime drama film staring Al Pacino. It was based on the Life magazine article entitled "The Boys
in the Bank" by P.F. Kluge and Thomas Moore. The feature story
chronicled the 1972 real-life robbery and hostage situation led
by John Wojtowicz and Sal Naturile at a Chase Manhattan branch
in Brooklyn, New York. Upon its theatrical release on September 21,
1975, Dog Day Afternoon was a critical success and box
office smash hit grossing $56 million on a $3.7 million budget. The film was nominated for seven (7) Golden Globe
Awards and six (6) Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and
won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In 2009, Dog
Day Afternoon was deemed "culturally, historically, or
aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress, and was
selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Based
loosely on the true story, the Hollywood version focuses on the
poorly planned bank robbery by first-time crooks Sonny
Wortzik (Pacino) and friends Salvatore
"Sal" Naturile (John Cazale) and Stevie (Gary Springer) and
their attempt to take down the First Brooklyn
Savings Bank. The plan immediately goes awry when Stevie loses
his nerve and flees. Sonny discovers they arrived after the
daily cash pickup and finds only $1,100 in cash. A fire, an
asthma attack and the "Attica! Attica!" scene are just a few of
the early highlights of this 1970s intense classic. It only gets
more outlandish after that. The film is weird to say the least,
but entertaining nonetheless and worth the $1.99 on your
favorite streaming package, or for rent on VHS at your local
Movie Gallery. Iron Hand gives the flick a 4.5 star review. In Week 1 of the BDFL's 30th season,
the Brookside Dogs took down the Shades Creek Sloth Monsters
(47-23) with an A.W. on a dog day afternoon at the Hoover
Metropolitan Stadium (The Met). Other winners in Week 1 of the
BDFL included the Vulcans, Armadillos, Bullets, Freebirds,
Bellcows, Gamblers and Cheetahs.

Welcome back to the 30th season of the BDFL! It is hard to believe that
the BDFL is turning 30. It just shows you how fleeting time is here on
our earth. Last season we crowned a new
first-time champion (Druid City Blitz) which is always exciting and
maybe another club can escape the league's notorious Null Set Club
(NSC) this season. The Armadillos, Bandits, Bellcows and Vulcans are the
only four clubs still holding NSC membership cards in 2024. To kick-off
the 2024 season, the BDFL media experts selected their 2024 All-BDFL
Pre-Season Team. Based on their selections, the
Duncanville Armadillos should be that team to breakout of the NSC this
season. The Texas Armada landed
three players on the first team which is quite an impressive feat having
drafted from the #16 slot in the recent 2024 BDFL Genuine Draft. This
just reinforces the BDFL Commissioner's (Iron Hand) stance on the
league's annual player draft; it is not where you draft, but who you
draft that is important. Thank you all for making the BDFL the top rated
fantasy football league in the world according to the media experts.
Enjoy the 30th season of the BDFL!
