JUGTOWN,
AL - Suzi Quatro was part of the Glam Rock movement in the 1970s, but
she was better known in the United States for her acting role as the
bass player Leather Tuscadero on the iconic television sitcom Happy
Days. Leather was the younger sister of Fonzie's former girlfriend,
hot-rod driver Pinky Tuscadero. Leather fronted a rock band joined by
Richie Cunningham's (Ron Howard) younger sister Joanie. Quatro appeared
in seven episodes of Happy Days during seasons 5 and 6. Quatro is
considered by many to be the first female rock 'n' roll musician and
singer to be taken seriously. By the way, back in 1981 when Glam Rock
was beginning to fade away, Don Henley of the Eagles and Stevie Nicks of
Fleetwod Mac recorded a duet entitled "Leather & Lace". The song was
written by Henley for Nicks' debut solo album Bella Donna.
Co-produced by Tom Petty and Jimmy Iovine, the album reached number one
on the U.S. Billboard charts in September of 1981. The song contains the
familiar chorus...Lovers forever, face to face. My city, your
mountains. Stay with me, stay. Well, I need you to love me, I need you
today...Give to me your leather, take from me my lace. During the
BDFL's Throwback Week 2022 in Week 6 there was no need for love, or
lace. Quarto's hard-nosed, honorary team, the Milwaukee Leathernecks
(Jugtown Juggernauts) "rocked" Slade's Wolverhampton Runaways (Fairfield
PowerSleds) 41-17 for an embarrassing loss in a packed stadium full of
fanatics who haven't tasted a vict'ry like this in a decade and a half.
