Vict'ry Bell

Justin Herbert is the real deal

Justin Herbert threw for three TDs in Week 1 to help lead the Bellcows to vict'ry over da Blitz

The Bellcows slaughter da Blitz in Week 1

DRUID CITY - Grease is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film based on the 1971 musical of the same name. The movie depicts the high school romance of greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) who develop an attraction for each other during a summer romance. Zuko blows it in the fall trying to be too cool for school, but wins her back in the end. Hopefully, you've all seen it by now. Grease was successful both critically and commercially, becoming the highest-grossing musical film ever at that time. With a $6 million budget, the film has grossed over $366 million. The soundtrack ended the year (1978) as the second-best-selling album of the year in the United States, behind only the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack (which also starred Travolta) and the album earned an Oscar for "Hopelessly Devoted to You" at the 51st Academy Awards. In 2020, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In the movie, Coach Vince Calhoun (Sid Caesar) was Rydell High's stereotypical coach and PE teacher. During the 1958-59 school year, Coach Calhoun helped the T-Bird's leader, (Danny) find a sport that he could handle, eventually settling on "long-distance running" for the track & field team, so Danny could try to win Sandy back. Coach Calhoun also coached the Rangers football team and he delivers one of the best sports lines in the history of comedy film. At the outdoor pep rally prior to an upcoming football game, Coach Calhoun ends his awe-inspiring speech with the classic line. "...And after the slaughter is over... We're gonna come back here... And ring that vict'ry bell... Like we've always wanted to". In the opening week of the 2022 BDFL season (Week 1), the Bellcows mosied on down to West Alabama and slaughtered da Blitz (47-28) at Kentuck Park in a match-up that wasn't even that close. Once the Bellcows returned to Massey Hill you could hear that vict'ry bell clanging all the way to Cluster Springs until midnight.

The Worm Hole

Spain Park's Nick Mullens was one of the first players found in the BDFL's 2022 WORM Hole

The WORM Rule is back for a 2nd season

TITLETOWN - Improving your BDFL roster during the season has never been better, thanks to the league's new, innovation WORM Rule. Instituted last year to deal with instability on BDFL rosters, the WORM Rule gives all BDFL teams the flexibility to make one roster move per week from Weeks 1-12. The weekly one roster move  (WORM) per team was very well received last year in its debut year. There could be a few tweaks in 2022, but the basic concept should stay the same. There was a ton of value found in the ol' proverbial "Worm Hole" of the BDFL last season with players like Elijah Mitchell, Cordarrelle Patterson, Davis Mills, Emmanuel Sanders, Randy Bullock, Taylor Heinicke, Hunter Henry, Van Jefferson, Zach Ertz and Tim Patrick, just to name a few, were claimed via the WORM Rule. Look for more WORM value this year when teams need an in-season roster boost. Email Iron Hand prior to the weekly starter deadline to make your WORM move. Typically, the weekly WORM Hole window is open each week from Monday at midnight until the starters are due on Thursday.
