Mean Machine Rolls on the King’s
Highway – Puts A.W. on Sloths: It’s fun to watch King Henry – Derrick Henry –
run over, run through, run past and right by NFL defenses. He looks like
a man playing with boys. It’s even more fun to have him on your fantasy
football team. This past week, on Monday Night Football, King Henry
scored three TD’s for the Tennessee Titans and the Fairfield PowerSleds.
One of the touchdowns was over 75-yards for double points and it helped
the Titans knock off the Buffalo Bills in a key AFC game, and it really
helped the “Mean Machine” roll to a big vict’ry over the Sloth Monsters.
It was a big A.W. for Mad Jack over a shell-shocked Mukes. The final
score was 52-25, but it wasn’t even that close as the Sleds would have
won the game even without all of Henry’s points. A shout out to Wil
Prewitt, who was at the MNF game in Nashville for the festivities and
almost got “Mossed,” because he was so close to ESPN commentator Randy
Moss. As for Wil’s Dad…MNF was not a sweet thing. Armadillos With Mixed Emotions – Done
in by Bullets on MNF: Wil’s aforementioned Dad – K.P. – had mixed
emotions over MNF. K.P. was proud of Wil getting a sweet gig at the
Worldwide Leader and some nice change. However, his Duncanville
Armadillos had to face the Benton Bullets with three shots still left in
the chamber after Sunday’s action. Ol’ Bullerino had guys on the
opposite team of King Henry with two wide receivers and one QB on the
Buffalo Bills. The combination of B.B.’s (in the State of Tennessee with
B.B. King – pardon the pun) turned out to be too much. In the BDFL, the
‘Dillos had an 11-point lead going into MNF, but the Bullets scored
13-points in that one pivotal game and pulled out a come-from-behind
vict’ry by the final score of 28-26. The Boys from Benton gave most of
the credit to their pre-game ritual of staying in T-Town Friday and
Saturday night, visiting Starkvegas to get the Tide back on a roll, and
then waiting until MNF to fire the shots they needed to get the win. Iron Sharper than Tomahawks – As
Commish Wins Brother Bowl: The Fultondale Freebirds are no longer the
Black Creek Wooden Warriors. The Freebirds do carry more than a “mic
stand,” into battle. They actually have an old tomahawk, but it’s one of
those flimsy, souvenir ones that you used to get at Six Flags, or Rock
City, or at the State Fair. Meanwhile, the Mineral Springs Grenadiers –
guided by Iron Hand – come out swinging one of the real swords (made of
iron) that either Gary Carter or Conan the Barbarian (the original) used
to brandish. So, Iron was sharper than Hime Hand in Week Six of the
BDFL, and it wasn’t even close as the Grenadiers put an A.W. on the
F’birds, 45-12. Jammin’ Jaimie Hand was one-point short of getting the
“Toilet Seat Team of the Weak” award Another A.W. – Wildcats Maul the
Mayors 33-11: The “Toilet Seat Team of the Weak” designation
in Week Six in the Big Daddy Football League went to the Magic City
Mayors, who didn’t even show up to pick up the hardware or in this case
toiletries. The Arrington Cronies were out-classed (if you can believe
that) by the Western Hills Wildcats. In what turned out to be the third
A.W. of the weekend, the Wildcats whipped up on the Mayors in the
friendly confines of Legion Field. The Mayors are petitioning to use the
new BJCC/UAB football field. As it stands now, they are being
out-flanked by the City Council, a few long-standing municipal
ordinances, and a lack-luster populace. Cheetahs Finally Fall – Beaten by
DaBlitz: It was a good run by the Southside Cheetahs.
It was a good start to the 2021 BDFL season by the Sin Wagon, piloted by
Mr. Butch Neal. But, all good things must come to an end (and it’s
same with the wildwood weed). The Cheetahs had managed to win five
straight games to open the season, while at the same time hold onto last
place in their division. How does that happen? It’s a statistical
anomaly (Google that, Big Daddy). In Week Six in BDFL action, all of
that good fortune for the Cheetahs ran out like “sand through the hour
glass.” It was time for the Druid City Blitz to shine and sparkle this
past weekend, and Jerry Fritz Gritz Blitz won big over the Cheetahs on
the road, 31-16. Bandits Utilize New OT Rule in Vict’ry
vs. Gamblers: In the closest and most hotly contested game
in Week Six in the BDFL, the Bandits and Gamblers went toe-to-toe for
60-minutes. When the stadium clock in lovely Altadena hit 00:00, the
score on the fancy LED read-out said, 25-25. In the BDFL, there’s
actually no more action on the field at that point. So, the Gulf Coast
Gamblers and the Altadena Bandits went to the @$$ system on the
cyberspace side of the League Office to see who would come up with the
win in the BDFL’s version of “sudden death” overtime. When the
tabulations were completed, it was determined by the league (and not
necessarily the two teams involved), that the “winner” of the game was
the Bandits. In high school, the old put on the 10-yard line system is
employed for OT, in college football it’s still the weird put it on the
25-yard line, then go twice – if necessary – then start going for two.
Nowadays in the NFL, it’s a first TD wins or back and forth nothings or
field goals or until the 10-minutes runs out, and it’s a tie. So… long
story short… too late… there is no good system out there for overtime.
So…Give the league office a break. Mark’s Mutts Bite the ‘Nauts: Elsewhere in the BDFL in Week Six, the
Brookside Dogs won a snoozer over the Jugtown Juggernauts, 23-17, at
Brookside Ball Park on the banks of the Five Mile Creek. Not due to
Covid or any other factors attainable to the staff at The Bulletin,
this game just did not draw any attention outside of Brookside, or
Gardendale. In fact, accounts of the game have both teams playing a
large amount of grab-@$$, and just out right “dogging it.” In the case
of the Brookside Dogs, that played right into their hands as Mark’s
Mutts picked up an important win in the BDFL by turning away the ‘Nauts
by six in Week Six. Bishops Beat Bellcows After a terrible representation by the
Fieldstown Bellcows in College Station, Texas, the Bellcows were able to
get back on the right track from a personal standpoint by re-grouping in
Starkville, Mississippi. However, none of that transferred to Week Six
action in the BDFL. On Sunday, a trip to Blount County turned out to be
disastrous for David Belrose and his heifers. The Mt. High Blue Deacons
were lying in wait in the hayfields of Hayden. Bishop’s team put it on
the Bellcows, 25-15. It was a vict’ry that the Bishop Nation could be
proud of and one that could resonate as the season continues for the
Hayden District Bishop Squad (HDBS).
Week Six in the Jr BDFL - “It’s all
about the kids.”
In
Week Six of the JrBDFL, The Bulletin is featuring two “sons of
the BDFL,” who are not even in the Junior League, and two that are in
the JrBDFL. The Bulletin has already mentioned Wil Prewitt, who
was instrumental in ESPN being able to broadcast the MNF game from
Nashville. The other is Nic Hand, who was highly productive in
Starkville helping to get the Crimson Tide back on the right track. Both
Wil and Nic are not in the Junior League, but Matthew Hand is the
Commissioner and he also had a “roll” in the Tide rolling in middle
Mississippi. It was also Matthew’s 18th birthday on Saturday,
and part of his celebration was visiting the Fraternal Order of Eagles
at the pre-game tailgate, and bringing home a 49-9 complete and total
A.W. over Mississippi State. The other member of the JrBDFL being
recognized is Jackson Barnes who looks to get his first start for
highly-ranked Briarwood this Friday night up in Corner against the
Fighting Dale Cook/Ed Bruce Yellow Jackets.
