The Dixie Mafia
How NFL Leaders like Patrick Mahomes Lead Teams to Greatness | Inc.com

Patrick Mahomes is the gunslingin' quarterback for the BDFL's notorious Dixie Mafia

Dealing a dead man's hand in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS - The Dixie Mafia was a criminal organization based in Biloxi which operated primarily in the 1970s and 1980s in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama. They were involved in various criminal activities including moving stolen goods and running alcohol and drugs. They were particularly well known for illegal gambling, shady strip joints and violence. Their origins came from the Appalachians dating back to the Whiskey Rebellion and the secessionist movement which viewed the federal government as oppressive and any criminal enterprise against it, justified. Unlike the American Mafia, the Dixie Mafia members were not connected by family, or country of origin. However, they were connected by common goals to make money and control their operations by any means necessary. Mike Gillich was the unofficial de facto kingpin who was of Croatian descent and raised himself in the city's Point Cadet section to become a wealthy entrepreneur along "The Strip". He owned a string of motels and nightclubs that doubled as strip joints and gambling dens along with a bingo parlor. He was known and trusted by almost every member of the Dixie Mafia including Kirksey Nix, the gang's most notorious member. Nix was a suspect in the attempted assassination of McNairy County (TN) Sheriff Buford Pusser of Walking Tall (1973) fame and in the murder of Pusser's wife. Nix was later involved in the 1987 murder-for-hire of Judge Vincent Sherry and his wife, a city council woman who was trying to clean up Biloxi. Nix's co-conspirator in the murder was none other than the newly elected Mayor of Biloxi, Pete Halat who had previously stolen hundreds of thousands of "dirty" dollars from Nix and blamed it on his law partner, Vincent Sherry. Nix ordered the hit on Judge Sherry and his wife from prison and was later sentenced to life in prison. Halat was also found guilty and sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the double murder. The FBI investigation into the murders eventually ended the city's long tolerance for wide open illegal gambling and strip clubs. Biloxi is now home to legal casino hotel resorts with 24-hour gambling, concert entertainment and luxurious restaurants. In Week 12 of the BDFL, the league's own Dixie Mafia (Gamblers) dealt the Legend of Shades Creek (Sloth Monsters) a dead man's hand (56-30) to eliminate them from contention for the 2020 BDFL Championship title. The BDFL's post-season playoffs

TITLETOWN - The BDFL has a pretty simple post-season playoff system based on rewarding the best teams while giving the rest something to play for in Weeks 15-17. After the regular season ends in Week 14, the league's "Elite Eight" will compete in the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) for the league's championship title. This championship title bracket consists of the four division winners and the next best four "wildcard" teams. Due to the infamous "Bullet Rule" of 1997, all BDCS teams must have at least seven vict'ries through Week 14 to qualify for the BDFL's championship title bracket. All teams are seeded 1-8 based on their overall point total after Week 14 for the first round match-ups and the seeded match-ups continue in the semi-final round for both the winner's and loser's brackets. Please consult with the Commissioner of the BDFL, Iron Hand, if you have any questions about this process.

For the remaining eight teams in the BDFL, the season is not over. These teams will compete in the BDFL's consolation post-season contest known as the Big Mullet Series (BMS). Like the BDCS, all teams are seeded 1-8 based on their overall point total after Week 14 for the first round match-ups and the seeded match-ups continue in the semi-final round. The carrot for this group for Weeks 15-17 is the winner of the BMS gets the first pick in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft in April and the final order of the BMS will follow for picks 2-8 in the BDFL's patented rookie draft. This is a true incentive for all teams to give it their best to finish up the season.

Making some logical assumptions, if the season ended after Week 12, here is what the BDFL's 2020 post-season would look like...
