The Bellcows trounce the Freebirds
BLACK
CREEK, AL
- Over the years, there have been some pretty big and nasty high school football
rivalries in Alabama's North Jefferson County. The classics, such as Gardendale vs. Minor, Fultondale vs. Mortimer Jordan and Warrior vs.
Corner come to mind first. However, there were other rivalries in the area
back in the day that were less known, but were just as vicious like New Castle
vs. Hooper City and later Tarrant vs. Pinson Valley. Due to
AHSAA re-classifications, mergers and closings, some of these fierce rivalries
have died out which is a shame. There are many different intrinsic rivalries
interwoven into the BDFL schedule each week and the Dreaded Schedule Maker (DSM)
has done his part to preserve the North Jefferson football rivalry
tradition with the league's own annual classic "backyard brawls" such as
Brookside vs. Mineral Springs, Jugtown vs. Snow Rogers (Mt. High) and
Black Creek vs. Fieldstown. More on the latter rivalry later. Due to the BDFL's extensive media coverage,
most fans know that the BDFL hands out four
Weekly Awards each week - The Big Daddy, Top Gun, Master Jedi,
Bonehead and the Toilet Seat Team of the Weak. Occasionally, the BDFL's
media experts will hand out an unofficial "Champ-to-Chump" or "Chump-to-Champ"
distinction during the season, if a team goes from best-to-worse, or
worse-to-best, from one week to the next. It doesn't happen a lot, but interestingly enough, both of
these honors have been awarded to North Jefferson County rivals over the
last four weeks. The Black Creek Freebirds earned the "Champ-to-Chump"
in Week 9 and during Week 11 of the BDFL, the Fieldstown Bellcows
moseyed on over to the Black Creek Reservation to trounce the
home-standing Freebirds (38-34) and captured the much more rewarding "Chump-to-Champ" award
to keep this rivalry brewing along U.S. Highway 31 for years to come.

Last Chance U can improve your lot
TITLETOWN
- Now is the time to improve your roster with the BDFL's annual
Waiver Wire Week. Unlike the traditional Supplemental Draft which runs
in an orderly manner, this deal is an email "free-for-all" which began after all Week 11 games
were completed. This is an unrestricted "name it and claim it" process
in which all teams may partake on a first-come, first-serve basis. This
is your proverbial "last chance" to improve your team for the last three
weeks of the regular season (Weeks 12-14) and get set for the playoff portion of the BDFL season (Weeks 15-17). In an ever-tightening race for the "Elite
Eight" post-season positions of the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS),
these Waive Wire Week acquisitions could be the difference makers in
determining the 2020 BDFL Champions. Good luck and good riddance.
