Wizardz Winnerz

The great and glorious Wizardo returns to the BDFL in 2026 with his weekly game progostications

Wizardz Winnerz is back for another run

MIDDLE EARTH - He's back! To the surface. The great and glorious Wizardo is returning to the BDFL to resume his thrashing of the Evil Las Vegas Oddsmakers (ELVO) with his undeniably brilliant "prognosticatory" skills during the upcoming 2026 BDFL season. ELVO and their crafty staff of number-crunchers will research and handicap the BDFL match-ups each week and publish the official lines/spreads. Then on TheBDFL.com's Wizardz Winnerz page, each weekly BDFL match-up will contain a witty blurb and prognostication from the "Great One" with two, or three, games (at the Great Wizardo's sole discretion, of course) receiving a more in-depth prognostication. The gauntlet has been thrown down. May the best man win the BDFL's 2026 Prognosticator of the Year (POTY) Award.

Week 3 Wizardz Winnerz...

Mayors v. Vulcans

Alan Arrington’s “Magical Mystery Tour” rolls into Lawson Field this weekend planning to pull enough rabbits out of their proverbial hat to send Nicholas Hand and the Vulcans scurrying for cover. Fortunately for Alan, these Vulcans aren’t likely to have any more staying power than the previous versions that haunted Legion Field in the 1970s.

Wizard’s Winner…the Mayors.

Grenades v. Dogs

The Great Wizardo was recently asked if a misspent childhood was followed by an equally misspent adulthood to which a clearly indignant Wizard testily responded, “Not in the least. There was a misspent adolescence in between.”

Wizard’s Winner…the Grenades.

Cheetahs v. Sloth Monsters

Butch Neal’s “Sin Wagon” will come ‘a rumblin’, stumblin’ and probably bumblin’ into town this weekend hopin’ to take Mike Dismukes’ “Tri-toed Tree Hangers” to task but will find themselves in need of some serious salvation when the dust settles.

Wizard’s  Winner…the Sloth Monsters.

Gamblers v. Juggernauts

Allyson Edwards and the “Jugtown Jubilee” plan to be singing from the same sheet of music when Kenny Breal and “Bayou La Batre One-armed Bandits” pass through this weekend. Thankfully for Allyson, even a few missed notes won’t keep the Fat Lady from singing.

Wizard’s Winner…the Juggernauts.

Blitz v. Bellcows

The Wizard has frequently opined the only person that ever made him consider smoking was Cheap Trick’s legendary drummer who was the rhythm backbone of the group. Playing with a cigarette dangled impossibly from his lips. Ultimately the Wizard never took up the habit but only because he heard from a good source the smoke gets in your hair. Still, he was sorely tempted.

Wizard’s Winner…the Blitz.

Bullets v. Freebirds

A bloody reunion is set for this weekend when Jaimie Hand and the “Fultondale Doo Doo Pumpers” welcome older brother Bullet to Sunday dinner, which is unfortunate since Jaimie is especially well equipped to handle anyone full of $%!#.

Wizard’s Winner…the Freebirds.

Armadillos v. Wildcats

“Jerry’s Kids” won’t need to hitch a ride on the short bus to host Kurt Prewitt’s “Texas Two Steppers” this weekend and will be pleasantly surprised to see one step will be more than enough send the visitors packin’.

Wizard’s Winner…the Wildcats.

Power Sleds v. Bandits

Barry Stephenson had best have the hammer down on his vintage ’72 black & gold Trans Am when Jack Barnes and the  “Fairfield Crazy Train” rolls through on a whistle stop tour. However, the Great Wizardo says the Sleds will likely go off the rails well before exiting the city limits Sunday night.

Wizard’s Winners…the Bandits.
