The Haymakers take the Rice Rockets behind the woodshed to kick-off their patented late season surge JUGTOWN - Back in the day when houses were heated by pot belly stoves and wood-burning heaters, split cordwood was stored outside the home under a shed adjoining a barn, outhouse or smokehouse. Wood was a valuable asset since it took time, energy and strength to produce, plus its intrinsic value for heating and cooking made it a necessity to keep it dry. Also, back in the day before political correctness, Rodney King and time out, parents disciplined their kids based on moral principles from the Bible...“spare the rod, spoil the child”. However, this form of discipline was not suitable for the home much like using the can in the house was not acceptable at that time. Therefore when it was time to discipline, the parent would take the child behind the woodshed, out of sight and sound, to administer the punishment. Hence, being “taken to the woodshed” and "behind the woodshed" have become synonymous with an @$$ whoopin'.

BDFL News  Big Daddy Championship Series contenders or pretenders time It is oil and water time as the BDFL separates into two pools. It is also the time when the pucker factor is at its max in the league. With seven or more wins, the Gamblers, Bullets, PowerSleds, Wooden Warriors and Dogs are all legit contenders at this point. The next batch including the Blitz, Woosiers, Cheetahs, Sloth Monsters, Mayors and Nauts fall into the pretenders category for now. How they all finish the last three weeks of the season will determine the 2011 BDCS lineup. |
