TOP STORY: WEEK #4

Monday Night Mauling

The Hayden Haymakers live up to their name and deliver a deadly blow on Monday Night to the reeling Rice Rockets

GARDENDALE - The Woosiers mantra has always been "Don't get mad, get even". Well in this case, they broke their own mantra and got mad and even. It was not well documented at the time of publication, but whatever set the Samaria off must have happened on Monday afternoon. Leading by a narrow 23-22 margin after Sunday's action, something triggered vengeance in the Woo Crew. According to BDFL media sources, the Nauts down one point and looking for a win anyway they could get one, threatened to turn over some small detailed documents (so called cheat sheets) confiscated from the night of the Genuine Draft to the BDFL authorities. These alleged documents were said to contain the Woo's patented "Late Peaking Formula" used for drafting players to maximize match-ups late in the season. There was no comment from the Woosiers camp.

Cutler has always been a gunslinger, but now he has some targets to hit

NEXT BEST STORY: WEEK #4

Thunder and Lightning

PowerSleds shock the Wizards 46-19 in Week 4 to show the BDFL Nation who is now The Lord of the Rings

TAMPA - Back in their formidable days, Mad Jack and the Wizard were part of the Central Florida pro wrestling underworld. Known as "Thunder & Lightning" the masked duo were part of the minor league rastlin' circuit of Tampa, St. Pete and Orlando. Taking on the sport's future stars like Rowdy Roddy Piper, Austin Idol, The Hart Foundation, The Nasty Boys, The Cuban Assassin, The Ultimate Warrior and Spaceman Spiff, they were the equivalent to the Washington Generals in pro basketball. Thunder & Lightning's MO would be to put up on a good fight in the first round, a fair show in the second and rollover in the third round. Usually bowing out of the match with a tender ham, or a concussion, or both. In venues like Mars Venus, the original Hooter's and Hillsborough High School, T&L was the fake show before the real show. Some things never change.

BDFL News

TheBDFL.com pays tribute to the 1973 Topps football cards

If you haven't noticed yet, the BDFL has a 1973 football card theme on most web pages this season. In 1973, Topps released the largest football card set ever at 528 cards. The series featured action and sideline shots and the team logos had to be covered. The cards were not graphic marvels and had strange color schemes for each team. With such a large set, Topps was able to feature more players than ever, as a result nearly a third of the players in the league were shown for the first time. Key rookie cards include Franco Harris, Jack Youngblood, Jack Ham, Art Shell, Ken Stabler and Dan Dierdorf. We used to get ours from Jiffy Chek after church.
