Throwback Week 2012
BDFL's annual Throwback
Week takes us back to teams and places that once
played the pro game
PARTS UNKNOWN - Week 6 of
the upcoming BDFL season has been designated as the league's annual
Throwback Week and this year's games will feature former NFL or AFL teams that no longer
play where they once did, a la
the Houston Oilers, Canton Bulldogs, St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Texans,
Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Colts, etc. Specific golden years from these
franchises have been chosen to highlight specific players and eras from
days gone bye. For instance, the 1968 Boston Patriots were chosen for
the Magic City Mayors since they opened that season in Birmingham
against the New York Jets while the 1987 Houston Oilers were chosen for
the Pasco County Wizards since The Wizard was on the team that year.
Below are the 2012 Throwback teams and the year highlighted along with
their BDFL representative team for the 2012 BDFL Throwback Week.

BDFL Supplemental
Draft 2012
The annual
Supplemental Draft takes place at the halfway point of the regular
season
AUDUBON - Each season the
BDFL holds a Supplemental Draft to help teams fill in any empty, or low
performers slots on their rosters. The one round draft goes in the
reverse order of the lowest point total team to the highest point total
team. Teams can drop a player and pick-up any available
player not claimed on another BDFL roster at the time of the draft.
The Sup Draft will take place at the regular season half way point which
is after the Week 7 games have been played.

BDFL Trade Days have begun
Yes, you can trade players
in the BDFL, but you must to follow the league's simple rules
AUDUBON
- Trading players in the BDFl has had its difficulty over the years with
teams wanting to manipulate the system, but that crap has never worked
with Iron Hand's rules. Easy as one, two, three, the BDFL is all about
integrity and credibility when it comes to moving players from team to
team. A trade must be #1 in the best interest of both teams and the
league. So work out your deal among yourselves and proceed to step #2.
All trades must be submitted as a written request to the Commissioner of
the BDFL, Iron Hand, for league approval and finally #3 it must take
place before Week 12 starters are due. Follow these simple rules and you
won't have any problems with the BDFL's trade policy.

2012 BDFL Football Trading Cards
Hot off the presses, the
BDFL rolls out their first commemorate collection of football trading
cards
AUDUBON
- For
the kids. Everything is for the kids. The very first limited edition set
of football cards from the BDFL. Easily printed on your home computer,
just load a heavy stock of 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper in
your printer, print and cut. Then, you'll have your on set of official
2012 BDFL football trading cards. Add more cards to your collection as
new cards are introduced each week. Be the first at your school to be a Big Daddy Football
League fan!
This year's BDFL cards are patterned after the 1973 Topps pro football
collection. In 1973, Topps released the largest football card set ever
at 528 cards. The series featured action and sideline shots and the team
logos had to be covered. The cards were not graphic marvels and had
strange color schemes for each team. With such a large set, Topps was
able to feature more players than ever, as a result nearly a third of
the players in the league were shown for the first time. Key rookie
cards include Franco Harris, Jack Youngblood, Jack Ham, Art Shell, Ken
Stabler and Dan Dierdorf. We used to get ours from Jiffy Chek after
church. Click here to check out the latest
in the BDFL's 2012 football card collection.

The RICKA Rule is a draft
night safety net
RICKA is an acronym for
Released, Injured, Cut, Kicked-Off, or Arrested
AUDUBON
- Way back in the early days of the BDFL, the RICKA Rule was established
as a hardship case for unforeseen consequences following the Genuine
Draft. RICKA is an acronym for Released, Injured, Cut, Kicked-Off, or
Arrested. Therefore, after the Genuine Draft, completely through Week 1
and up until Week 2 starters are due, The RICKA Rule is in effect. So if
you have a player that qualifies for the RICKA Rule based on the rules
criteria, then you can drop the RICKA Rule player and add another player
that was undrafted. The RICKA Rule does not come into play each year,
but it is good to know in case the hardship need arises such as Tom
Bradys injury in Week 1 of the 2008 season, or any of Ricky Williams
numerous suspensions over the years. The protocol to request a RICKA
Rule ruling is to contact Iron Hand, The Commissioner of the BDFL, in
the appropriate window with you request and replacement, then The
Commissioner will approve, or veto, the request based on the spirit and
precedence of the RICKA Rule and its purpose.
2012
RICKA Rule moves thus far
Grenadiers drop QB-Hoyer/NE for QB-Hill/DET
Mayors drop PK-Gano/WAS for PK-Tucker/BAL
Dogs drop WR-Owens/SEA for WR-Quick/STL
Mayors drop RB-Addai/FA for RB-Goodson/OAK
Mayors drop RB-Best/DET for RB-Morris/WAS
Blitz drop WR-Demps/NE for WR-Briscoe/WAS
Woosiers drop PK-Brown/NYJ for PK-Graham/HOU
Gamblers drop PK-Mare/CAR for PK-Medlock/CAR
Wizards drop WR-Johnson/FA for TE-Clark/TB
Armadillos drop QB-Garrard/MIA for QB-Anderson/CAR
Woosiers drop WR-Burris/FA for WR-Ogletree/DAL

New Wildcats get a new look
Out with old and in with the
new as the Western Hills Wildcats roar back into the BDFL
GLEN
OAKS
- Having missed last year with a year's suspension, the Western Hills
Wildcats are back in the BDFL for the 2012 season and bring with them
some new colors, a new logo and a new attitude. Heaven knows they needed
some changes. Adopted are the dark navy and orange from their beloved
Chicago Bears along with a touch of gray from the leader of the James
Gang and together you have a look that is hard to beat. We'll have to
see if the "look good, play good" saying translates well onto the field,
but you got to like the spunk in the rejuvenated Wildcat camp. A pep
rally is scheduled at Western Hills Mall on the day of the first home
game and all fans can ride the public transit to the game afterwards.
Northgate High School Head Football Coach Tommy Walburn will be on hand
for the team's pep talk and gun show.

Brookside Ball Park
Legendary ball park and
athletic program fostered greatness
BROOKSIDE, AL - Whether we
like it or not, Brookside, Alabama is part of the BDFL. From the BDFL's
original Brookside Dogs to the Fightin' Slovaks to the memorable July
4th horse shoe challenge matches, this small coal mining hamlet of
Slovak immigrants in north western Jefferson County has had its
impact on the BDFL, Alabama, America and the world. In the day, the central
focal point of Brookside's charm and mystic was Brookside Ball Park. Nestled along
the long and winding Five Mile Creek, the ball park held a sense of
pride for the citizens and was always a tough place for their opponents
to visit and play. The park featured unique intricacies such as light poles inside
the fencing, a short plate to backstop distance and it held heat and
humidity like a modern day dome without air conditioning, or
circulation. Supported by the local VFW #64 and other respectable
sponsors such as Wayne's Place, Bootie's and Laney's Grocery, "The Ball
Park" as it is affectionately referred to by the locals, spawned a
generation, or two, of great athletes like the famous Slovensky Brothers
(Phillip, Jimmy, Ronnie and Donald) and the Burr Brothers (Mark, Todd
and Tony) plus other great individual athletes like Guy Moore, Kenneth
Hand, Larry Keedy, Pat Keedy, Kevin "Kelbo" Sanford, Pete Meadows Jr., Phillip
Harris, Jerome Hand, Jerome Jackson, Bryan Estis, John Wayne Franklin,
Dodie Goode, Jonathan Carroll and Ronald "Hot Dog" Sexton. Pictured
above is the 1971 Brookside baseball team that shows Brookside's "pluck
and grit" sometimes had to compete with only eight players while taking
on nine. Back Row (left to right) Joe Frederick, Kenneth Hand, Luther
King, Steve Pickle, Dino Tombrello. Front Row (left to right) Ben
Glasscock, David Cupps, Dennis Cupps and David King.

T-Rich
is the Top Dawg
Richardson has the
Rust Belt dreaming about bringing home their first Super Bowl title
ELYRIA,
OH - The Schaefer cans were a poppin' and America's oldest lager (1842)
was flowing as the Dawg Pound was celebrating all over the Rust Belt,
including down on The Flats, Lake Erie and on the Cuyahoga River, just
shortly after the hometown Brownies selected the stud running back out
of Alabama. In a marriage made by the football gods, excluding Jim
Brown, the city of Cleveland has another Bama man that could re-write
the Browns record books. For those who don't know better and who have
never been to a game at the venerable Cleveland Municipal Stadium, as
the Commissioner did in the '80s with Earl White and his cousins Wayne
and Dean, Schaefer was the "house beer" of the Browns and had one of my
favorite slogans of all-time, "Schaefer is the one beer to have when
you're having more than one". With all the Slovaks in Cleveland, you can
bet they sold more than one at the old ball park. The Druid City
Blitz selected Richardson #1 in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft. Complete
details below.

2012 BDFL Genuine Draft
is set
Saturday, August 25th at
6:00pm at the Mayors newest crib in Vestavia Hills
VESTAVIA
HILLS - The BDFL has returned the annual Genuine Draft of to the home of
the Mayors. This will be the third home of the Mayors to host the
illustrious draft since its inception in 1995 when the BDFL started
selecting players for league play. The Mayor and his wife always host a
wonderful event and this is why the BDFL's annual Spirit Award carries
the Arrington family name thus The BDFL's Arrington Spirit Award. The
Mayors' new address is 2121 Vestavia Lake Drive - Vestavia Hills, Alabama
35216. As always bring what you and your crew plan to drink and plenty
of cash to buy pizza for all that will be eating. One last note, if you
cannot attend the draft, please make arrangements for somebody to select
your team for you and let the Commissioner know your plans for his
approval, or risk being left out of the league for a season a la the
Western Hills Wildcats in 2011.

New BDFL Schedule announced
It's Back to the Future with
a 16 team schedule and a new twist to the annual Throwback Week
AUDUBON -
With the league back up to 16 teams, the BDFL had to revamp the regular
season schedule this season and went back to the 2010 model. Each team
will play all other BDFL opponents except one during a 14 game regular
season to ensure the most balanced schedule for overall records. The Big
Daddy Championship Series (BDCS) and the Big Mullet Series (BMS) will
start in Week 15 as in most seasons while Week 16 will be the seeded
semi-finals leading up to the Big Daddy Bowl in Week 17. Other
highlights of this year's schedule includes the Week, 1 RICKA Rule, Week
6 Throwback Week featuring former NFL/AFL teams that no longer exist, a la
the Houston Oilers, Canton Bulldogs, Baltimore Colts, etc. and the
popular Supplemental Draft in Week 8 and the Wavier Week in Week 11.

Here comes the Armadillos
The new Armadillos and the
old Wildcats join the fray for the 2012 BDFL season
DUNCANVILLE
- Grave Diggers, Road Killers, Hoover Hogs, Poorman's Pigs, or Possums
on the Half-Shell. It really doesn't matter what you call them, just
don't call them late for a midnight diner in the middle of the road.
With that disclaimer, the BDFL welcomes the 21st franchise in league
history. From the Lone Star State by way of Tuscaloosa, Huntsville and
Charlotte, comes the new Duncanville Armadillos for the 2012 season.
Joined by the Western Hills Wildcats after a year-long hibernation, the
BDFL will be back to 16 teams and four divisions for this upcoming fall.
The Armos will be headed up by Kurt Prewitt who has many ties to several
of the existing BDFL members through his years at the University of
Alabama, Harry's Bar and other credible establishments. For much is
given, much is expected and the BDFL expects the Armadillos to be a
model franchise.

BDFL Pony Draft results
Some of this year's crop of
rookies could make an immediate impact in 2012
NO MAN'S LAND - In the BDFL, we draft
college players into our league before the NFL. We've been doing so for
years now. This ingenious idea came from the BDFL's own Bullet
Hand and has been copied by fantasy league's all over the world, but it
did start at the BDFL. The Pony Draft lends a "hot stove" element to the
league's off-season and provides the league's under performers a
much needed shot of adrenaline heading into the new season.
Here is how the one-round
annual BDFL Pony Draft played out for this year's stable of ponies...
|
|
 |
BLITZ
#1 | RB - Trent Richardson/CLE Richardson will be a
star in Cleveland from day one and will give the Dawg Pound and
the Gritz Blitz something to celebrate soon. |
|
 |
JUGGERNAUTS
#2 | QB - Andrew Luck/IND Luck was a cod lock to go to the
Colts with the first pick in the NFL Draft, but fell to the #2
selection in the BDFL's annual Pony Draft. |
|
 |
FIGHTIN' SLOVAKS
#3 | QB - Robert Griffin III/WAS If there was any
question that Griffin would be a bust in the NFL, it is for
certain now that the Slovaks have tagged him as "the franchise". |
|
 |
GRENADIERS
#4 | WR - Justin Blackmon/JAX Jags are gambling that
Big 12 defenses live in the AFC South and they could be right.
G-Men take the proverbial "best athlete available". |
|
 |
MAYORS
#5 | QB - Ryan Tannehill/MIA Miami and the Mayors are
hoping that Tannehill is the real deal to provide the Fins with
their first decent QB since Dan "The Man" Marino. |
|
 |
WOODEN WARRIORS
#6 | WR - Michael Floyd/ARI Floyd was overshadowed in
this draft by Blackmon, but he could be the best receiver in the
draft and 'Zona will know how to use him. |
|
 |
WIZARDS PASSED BUT COULD HAVE HAD...
#7 | RB - LaMichael James/SF James is not very high on
many team's draft boards, but neither was Darren Sproles. The
Wizards missed the boat at this year's Pony Draft. |
|
 |
SLOTH MONSTERS
#8 | WR - Ryan Broyles/DET In what many BDFL media
experts tabbed as the reach of the day, the Sloths got their man
in Broyles with the hope he can stay healthy |
|
 |
DOGS
#9 | WR - Kendall Wright/BAY Wright was RG3's main
squeeze at Baylor and helped his Heisman campaign. The Dogs are
are also hoping for Big 12 defenses in the AFC South. |
|
 |
WOOSIERS
#10 | WR - Alshon Jeffery/CHI Jeffery will be a
monster at the next level. Teamed with Brandon Marshall, the
Bears have a formidable one-two punch. Woo is grinning. |
|
 |
GAMBLERS
#11 | WR - Stephen Hill/NYJ The Gamblers are thrilled
with the athletic Hill, but just like at Georgia Tech, who can get
can get him the ball with the Jets?
|
|
 |
CHEETAHS
#12 | RB - David Wilson/NYG You do not become a
four-time BDFL champion by chance. This pick shows why the savvy
Cheetahs are the BDFL's proverbial Lion Kings. |
|
 |
BULLETS DROPPED
#14 | WR - Joe Adams/CAR Adams is definitely a sleeper,
but the Bullets like his big play potential and he could be the
deep threat they need in 2012 to get over the hump.
|
|
 |
POWERSLEDS
#15 | WR - Rueben Randle/NYG Randle was a "no show" in
the big games vs. Bama and the BDFL experts question his
toughness, yet the Sleds still took him with their pick. |
|
 |
ARMADILLOS DROPPED
#15 | RB - Lamar Miller/MIA Armos make the best of a
tough draft position by selecting the talented Miller, regarded
by many as the second best back in this Pony class. |
|
 |
WILDCATS DROPPED
#16 | WR - Marquis Maze/PIT Undrafted by the NFL, but
was drafted
by the BDFL's stepchild. He'll have to contribute as a
Steeler free agent to help out the hapless Mildcats. |
